I have a 2 year old shi tzu who can't seem to stop licking her paws. Someone suggested she might be allergic to something but she's an indoor dog, I can't imagine what she might be allergic to.

Could be several reasons for this
1. Pyschosymatic eg Stress, comfort (like sucking thumb)
2. Allergies - food , grass, plant, carpet cleaner, fabric softener, cleaning product (you use to clean floors)
3. Bacterial / fungal infection
4. Pain in bone / joint of paw
5. Nail bed infection
6. Foreign body in foot eg grass seed, splinter
Best see the vet and they will be able to have a look and see if any other signs of what is causing this behaviour

Has she gotten her nails clipped recently? She could be licking because they are too long and need clipping or because she just had them clipped and just irritated a bit.

Have you spread open her paws to check between her 'toes'?
look inbetween is it very red and I would suspected she would be licking because they itched....does it seem to be painfulI. If not give her some benedryl and put Neosporin on for a few days...also slowly chang her diet.Or take her to the vet they could given her a shot of cortisone and probably antibiotics. It may be 'chapped' skin...made worse by her licking.

Could be arthritus or an injury. They lick where they hurt had arthritus (mild) were she licked is her paws is there hardly any hair on the tops of them. Called"Baldy Paws".might need arthritus medicine.

Could be allergy...to something in your carpet or your yard.

Might have something stuck in there, or she might have a sore or getting a rash. Make her stop licking and really look at the paw against the others and if anything is different take her to the vet

The most common reason for the chewing of the paws is food allergies.
If the dog food has corn, soy or beet pulp (or all) this is the biggest cause of food allergies.
It would be best to get it off the food with these ingrediants in it and go to a all natural food. like canidae, solid gold, wellness, california natural, dick van pattens formula, innova. These are some all natural dog foods good and healthy for your dog.
The foods you buy at the grocery store even the vets office are JUNK....... UNHEALTHY ............... FOODS.................

I had the same prob with my yorkies, as yours, mine are inside dogs too. Keep a close eye her. If she starts biting them, and making them bleed, take her to the vet pronto! They will give her a mild medication.
Try using a mild soap and washing her paws a couple times a day. It might be your carpet, washing solution for mopping your floors, or just allergies.
GOOD LUCK!

sounds like anallergy but some dogs do it because they are bord or are obsessive complusive - if its spring or becomming spring i where you are most likely ots allergies - you don't have to gooutside to get hayfever & otheroutdoor allergies also pets can be allergic to new shampoo, carpet chemicals cleaners , food and so manyother things - talk to your vet about the possibilities
