Your kitty may have a sensitive stomach. There are many cat foods out in the market formulated for sensitive stomachs. Here are a few that are reputedly very good:
(1) Eukenuba Sensitive Stomach Adult Cat Food
(Dry) 2.5lbs is around $7.00; 6.5lbs is around $14.00
Its very good.
(2) Royal Canin Special Formula 33
(dry) around $13.00
(3) Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Adult
(dry) around $8.00
(4) Purina One Adult Cat Sensitive Formula
(dry) around $21.00
Why not try one of these and see if it will solve your cat's prolem. Buy only a little until you find the brand your cat can tolerate. Make sure that kitty is drinking enough fresh water since it looks like she'll have to be on a dry food diet.

If he is not skinny he is getting enough nutrition. The problem is why he throws up. You have to get him to the vet for a check up and perhaps change his diet. By the way, my cat throws up if he eats pate, not just any canned food, but the ones that are really mashed. I don't give him that ever since I discovered this, and he is fine. But if yours throws up often, perhaps he has some stomach problem.

You probably need to take him to a vet. Some cats can't digest certain generic brand foods, and by that I mean store bought foods. You may need to get a special food from the vet. Something like Science diet brand food. He may have a stomach disorder or the food could just be messing with his system. My cat is diabetic so I have to feed him Science diet Diabetic Management food.

As long as you feed a high quality dry cat food (Science diet, Eukanuba, Nutro) your cat will be fine without canned food. My cats won't eat canned food at all. If he continues to vomit you might want to try smaller meals, he might be eating too fast. If he has symptoms (weight loss, poor coat quality, bad breath, loose stool...anything abnormal) you should take him to the vet first to make sure he is healthy. If he were my cat I would take him to the vet soon, I wouldn't want to miss an illness in the early stages

I think that it would be a good idea to ask a vet what type of food they would recommend for a cat with a weak stomach... it could be as easy as buying the cat food they sell at the vets.
Good luck

Cats and dogs don't suffer bulima as natural instinct is to eat as much as possible - they don't care about body image.
There are many reasons for vomiting
1. worms
2. heliobacta (oesophageal reflux and bacteria of stomach)
3. Kidney failure
4. cancer
5. foreign body
6. food intolerance (mostly its to fish - most cat foods are coated in fish meal except whiskas advance adult cat chicken or hills feline z/d)
This seems the most likely if vomitted after can foods.

We feed our cat nothing but Meow Mix, because that is all that she will eat. She throws up from time to time to get rid of hairballs, but she is a longhaired cat and is more susceptible to them. We leave food out all the time and she eats when she pleases.

There's no such thing as a "bulemic" cat-they don't suffer from eating disorders like we do.

Sooo... he sticks his paw down his throat to induce vomiting because he thinks he's too fat? I would just continue to feed him dry food, not wet.. if wet is making him puke. Ask your vet.
