I have a lot of fine hair and I fine it impossible to style because blowdryers just make it more tangled. If I wear it down within a few hours I am getting knots forming. I recently got long layers cut in my shoulder length hair and the tangles have gotten worse post-layers. any ideas for styling products to keep it from knotting.......right now my only option is to wear it tied back which I would rather not do all the time.

First, make sure to condition every time you get your hair wet. Use a light leave in conditioner, and use a silicone based smoothing product. Apply to soaking wet hair, and let your hair towel dry. Dont blowdry your hair sopping wet... towel dry it until it is barely damp. Dont brush your hair, just use a comb to avoid breakage. John frieda makes a nice anti-tangle hair cream, and I use that on every young girl whos hair I cut! It makes life ALOT easier!

Condition with a good detangling conditioner. Go with a straight style. If you like long hair then by all means keep it long just have a spray bottle of Johnsons No More Tangles, Infusium leave in conditioner, or any other leave in detangling conditioner. What works well for one person might not work for another, so you might have to try a few products until you find what works best for you. My suggestion is whatever you buy to try buy the smallest container you can find. Also don't be afraid to ask for suggestions on products when you visit your local beauty supply store. There are new products out all the time.

I'm not sure how hair can be thick and fine but sounds like you need a good leave in conditioner comb through with a wide toothed comb or a natural bristle brush. Check out mixedchicks.net for products.

Try using Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny products. They are amazing especially the serum.

Try straighting it with product, maybe your hair is damaged and that's why tangles are forming.
