Do you really think that arguing with each other is going to get you anywhere? Has it really gotten the scientific and church communities anywhere?

To the guy who accused me of polarizing the Bible and science: you're wrong. I polarized atheism and christianity. In asking whether or not science and church communities were gaining grounds through arguing, I was not saying that they are necessarily out of synch. Please don't try to put words in my mouth.

I de-converted from Catholicism to atheism here. It got me somewhere. I have also met a huge community of atheists here, and I find them to be really delightful people. I like them a lot, and am looking forward to meeting some of them in person. This forum accomplishes a lot, I see it every day.

Well eventually the human race will wake up and realize that we are not as significant to the earth as we think we are and in everyone's humble life at that point there will be no use for arguing because it is not the point that matters but the basics needs for survival that all humans require. We have made things too complicated and religion in any form is proof of that. More people are killed over religion than they are over money. Both are evil in their own way to me. What is wrong with just being a good person living your life as best you can then dying and it all being over. Short, simple, and most likely true.

Nothing wrong with debating, questioning things is a good way to learn. The scientific community is helped by being asked questions they are not yet able to answer, then they strive harder to find the answer. In the end it does help science advance, science is based on questioning, researching, and testing things to find answers.

No, but it does give me an idea of how others are thinking, which is pretty much the only reason I'm here.
As for where it's gotten the scientific and church communities - well, I can't speak for the church, but you should attend a conference of scientists sometime if you want to hear arguing. I would say it's gotten them quite far - being able to defend your theories is one key to scientific progress.

You never know. Some people end up going the other direction, turning from hell destiny to eternal heaven. The proclamation of truth does not guarantee the acceptance of truth. So argue away, but argue well!

Nope and to be honest, I've found many atheists to be decent and kind people. Figured that was the point of the whole deal anyhow, you know the "Golden Rule." Atheists have only one real "sin" and it's that they don't believe. So if you have a person that doesn't hurt anyone, but simply doesn't believe in God, is that better or worse than someone that believes, but also has done "bad things"?

Arguing isn't very constructive. But I have learned a lot about other people's points of view by participating in this Q & A.

Nope, won't accomplish a thing. Two competing groups both trying to convince the other side of equally un-provable things both with a stagering absence of empirical evidence. I hate it when they go at it. Something about not recognizing the futility of it and the need to be right or prove others stupid makes me want to put a beat'n on all of them.

More and more people are realizing the silliness of the bible. As long as the world is plaque with delusional people I will continue to argue for reason.
