There is a bit of a myth surrounding loosing weight from the stomach area, most people say sit ups as it "targets the area". Unfortunately however the body is not selective in where it will draw fat for metabolism like this. When fat is metabolised as an energy source (the only way you can loose it) it is drawn from all areas where there is fat. Cardiovascular excercise, doesn't matter what, will burn fat. Unfortunately for some women when they loose lots of weight it means that their boobs shrink (good source of fat for calories) or their bums. Regardless loosing that weight is good for you (if you are overweight). Good luck on your mission :o)

Further to the response by the personal trainer. If you did no cardiovascular excersise, just sit ups you would end up with a muscular abdomen obscured by the same layer of fat that was the initial problem, my point was that just doing sit ups will not burn that fat (medical scientist).

Straight from personal trainer to you: When losing weight, it is important to tone around the same time so you are gaining muscle as you lose weight. Otherwise, you'll just end up with deflated fat cells, which makes for a flabbier belly. Sit ups are your best option. If you don't want to lose weight, you don't even have to do the aerobics you were talking about- they won't be as important as the sit ups (though you should excercise regularly like that anyways).

As long as the belly isn't *too* flabby. If you were once very overweight and lost weight strictly through cardio, that might be a problem, and there's very little you can do about it. The above solution is more fruitful for little wobble belly...

The guy above is pretty much right, except when you are weightlifting to tone muscles(like sit ups), it will make a difference in the appearance of that area. It's targeted cardio that doesn't make a difference in that particular spot.

You need to establish a program, a routine to keep control of body metabolism, calories in from food, calories burned by exercises. Otherwise you will store all the treats and sweets and carbs you don't burn! Don't starve yourself, your body will then slow down metabolism and store the fats! You need to make a habit of a minimum of 3 days a week 20 min. each to engage in upper and lower body workout, do crunches and stretches and butt tucks and squats and leg lifts, back kicks and front and side, hold a chair and do them, slowly and rhythmical with resistance as though a weight were attached to the leg as you slowly lift and lower it. Get some canned goods if you don't have dumb bells and use them to do arms. Arms at sides lift shoulder height and lower, do 12 reps. 3 times, arms in front, palms facing up, elbows against your sides, curl arms bend elbows. Arms straight out from shoulder high, palms up, bring both arms overhead, meet, and back to shoulder height. Bend forward at waist, holding dumb ell or can in each hand, bend elbows, then push arm straight back and up (just as before thrusting forward in a dive)
