Last week I noticed a small reddish spot on top of my right breast, almost near the arm pit. There is no lump or heat, but it was sore whenever it was touched.
One week later, the soreness is pretty much gone, but the spot is still there, although it looks lighter than what it used to be (more pinkish now, not too noticeable). I have no idea if this is a bruise or something more serious. I've looked on several websites saying that redness was a symptom of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, and now I'm terrified I might have that! The breast doesn't look larger, there's no "pitting" or "orange like texture", no swollen glands, and the spot hasn't spread, but I'm very nervous.
Does this sound like it could be IBC? Should I see my doctor? I am 21 years old and have never been pregnant. Please help!

The spot is small, maybe a little smaller than a dime or a penny.

Of course you should see a doctor to make sure it's not anything potentially dangerous but just so you know, the fact is that most types of cancer, including breast cancer has no pain associated with it. That's one of the reasons it's so hard to detect. Don't panic. :) God bless!!!

Hi Heide
I'm a cancer survivor and at your age you could get IBC but it's not very common. what you describe could be anything, a bruise, sore lymph node, milk duct, cyst, inverted pimple, infection, since the redness and soreness isn't as bad, I wouldn't worry alot over it, but I would still get it checked out at the doctors office. Have you had mammograms in the past? They might want to do one just to be sure, possibly a breast ultrasound. How about under your arm, in the pit, there is a lymph node there, does it hurt? feel swollen?
Sometimes the sites on the net really put the fear in you, dont' they? I would just see the doctor to ease your fears 100%, I wouldn't worry or lose sleep over it, IBC doesn't get better it spreads so the fact that it seems lighter and not as sore is a good thing.

Symptoms of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, IBC
These are Typical Symptoms of IBC : -
- Rapid, unusual increase in breast size
- Redness, rash, blotchiness on breast
- Persistent itching of breast or nipple
- Lump or thickening of breast tissue
- Stabbing pain and/or soreness of breast
- Feverish breast
- Swelling of lymph nodes under the arm or above the collarbone
- Dimpling or ridging of the breast
- Flattening or retracting of nipple
when i read these information , i realised you do have more than one of these symptoms . you also mentioned that there is no lump . however , for IBC , you may contract although there is no sign of any lumps . not to scare you , but this is to stop your thinking that you wont have IBC cos you have no lumps .
alright , so i think , you better consult a doctor ? cos you dont want to take things for granted and wait until the whole thing worsen yea ? all the best ((:

first off dont be scared i have ibc those are the syptoms, they call this the silent killer because most women ignore it.go and see your doc.asap and ask for a mammo, ultrasound and a biopsy thats the way to find out for sure.i was fortunate to find a lump under my armpit first which is not common at first i was told it was nothing after my first mammo and then my breast started to swell i went to a new doc. and had all of the test i spoke about and it was ibc that was6/06 since then i had 8 chemo treatments and now im having a mastectomy this thursday and following that radiation and in august i will have reconstruction of my breast so i will be a new woman.so im saying dont be scared get your test done it can save your life.and there has been many women who have had healthy babies after that.good luck and be stong .get the test it may be nothing.but if it is you can make its early findings for you.

It could be many things. You could have a small cyst. The only way to put your mind at ease is to talk to your doctor and schedule a mammogram. Its fine to look at websites for information, but they should not be used to self diagnose.
Although it is not impossible, I would say you are a bit young to have to be worrying about cancer, but if you have a family history of breast cancer, it does increase the risk.
Don't torture yourself by not knowing, get the exam and know for sure.
Blessings and peace to you.

I`d experienced that too way back 3 years ago. Of course, like you, I was very much alarmed about it. So, what I did , I went to several doctors for breast examination. They gave me mammogram test and ultrasound test. Fortunately, I got the same answers from them. They have one common finding. it was just a PMS ( pre-menstrual syndrome ). So, I suggest to you, you better consult to the doctor/ expert.

You don't mention its size but it's normal for women to get little red bumps like zits on their chest sometimes.
