I went to my sons school the other day and they were learning about the Bible and the teacher told me its part of History. What do you think it is History or Religion. I have nothing against it cause we go to church every sunday. Is there a time for learning the bible only on sundays or should it be something the kids learn about in school.

Touchy subject. To some, the bible is part of history. To others, it's not. I think to keep things fair & lawful, the bible should be kept out of teachings at school unless it's a religious school. You actually have to have faith in the bible and God to believe that it's a part of history. If you don't have those things, the book is useless and so are the things that some people say are facts.

Religion should be taught in the home by parents if they want to impress that upon their children. Personally, I wouldn't want my kids (if I had any) to learn about God or religion from other people. When I was a kid, some freaks taught religion through fear and basically made me scared of religion and God. Religion isn't something that should be taught to everyone. We should all be allowed to find our own path and the parents should be the teachers. Too many people scare kids with the bible and try to scare them into behaving. I know it scared me to death and I wouldn't want any kid to go through that.

While the bible and religion are a part of history, its content is not history. If the bible or religion is to be taught in schools they belong in a theology class where the basis of all major religions are being taught. While some believe it to be true, there is no proof, so the contents of the bible should not be taught in history or science classes.

The Bible is the history of the Jewish people. It also gives the lineage of Jesus.

It should be taught everywhere and anywhere.

You can actually see when things changed in this country just by looking back to when the Bible was banned from school

People have different religions and some don't believe. There may be a place for religion in school, but it shouldn't be taught as fact. I am a Christian, but if I was of another faith or didn't believe, I would resent my kids learning religion as though it were an exact science. It isn't fair to impose your beliefs on others.

Why is it not history? What is history? It is written records about past events. The gospels(mathew, mark luke and john) are written records about the life of jesus. The book of acts is a written record about the history of the very early church. All of it is primary or secondary source evidence(it was written by eye-witnesses or people who got it from an eye-witness).
Sure, it's religion but it is also history too. If the gospels and the book of acts were written about alexander the great or julius caesar no one would question it's historical value. Why do you have a double standard because it was written about jesus?

Well, we have to learn about the Bible to understand Christianity, the way we learn about the Quran and Three Baskets of Wisdom. It's part of the ciriculum so it's history. Alot of history is religion related.

The Bible is historically relevant for the role it has played in the development of western civilization; however, it is not a history book. It is a collection of the myths and folktales of quasi-historic semi-nomadic Semitic goat herders who lived thousands of years ago.

I come from a VERY extremly religious family and it would be sort of both because all of that stuff did happen awhile ago and some religions would be against it. but I myself think it would be more religion. I think all schools should have a bible class or someting because if you look at the world today... it is'nt fit for a germ lol--- hope this helps=)

I respect your schools decision to meld in this way. If more of this was done perhaps 1st our schools and then as a result perhaps our neighborhoods also would be a safer place. Perhaps had they been doing this all along there would have been less evil lurking everywhere. Encourage your son and his school teachers.
