Religious Identity creates hatred in the sense that some people hate all persons belonging to a certain religious group. This is not necessarily a reflection of the hater's religion, but rather the victim's religion. As in the current Islam issue - some people (be they Baptists, Atheists, Mormons, etc.) hate all Muslims, simple because without knowing an individual they group them with terrorists. In this sense, religious identity leads to hatred.
On the other hand, as mentioned already, religious identity does not created hatred in the sense that Christians automatically hate all other religions. Or Muslims hate all Jews. So, it doesn't reflect hatred based on the hater's religious identity, but rather that person's ignorance.

Any kind of radical adherence to an identity can cause hatred towards those that are not a part of it. Religion is not immune. It might be even more affected, because of the relative ease of radically adhering to it. But it's not the identity, or the religion that creates the hatred. It's the people within it, who create the hatred. Religion, or whatever identity used, is only the justification.

It depends on what passes as "religious identity"- the muslims would probably be better suited to answer your question- theirs is the most whacked religion I've ever witnessed. It's nothing but evil inspired hatred.

Personally speaking, I have far, far less hatred in my life thanks to my Buddhist practice. I sometimes get irritated, but seldom does it last very long.
I know there are many others in other religions that feel the same way, so the answer is no, religion does not create hatred.
Of course it *can* lead to hatred, but that's different than saying it *does* lead to hatred.

No, it's only when there is a level of ignorance.
Sometimes people are simply wrongly informed,
victims of propaganda (this is huge when it comes to Islam) or they just don't know much about it .
When people have ignorance, they do not know anything about the religion and will accept anything that they hear, eg "All Muslims are terrorists." . People need to learn more and stop generalising.

No. Ignorance creates hatred. Being closed minded and not realizing that others have the same rights as you do....to believe what their heart and souls tell them is right.

No it does not. The only way that religion causes hate is if it teaches that their followers should hate other religion. Which religion teaches that?
