The sentence is:
George Washington is the first president.

The question is:
How can I form a question such that the answer should be the FIRST?

Is it correct to say:
1. What is the ordinal number of George Washington's presidency?
2. In sequential order, what is the number of George Washington's presidency?

Any suggestion can you give me? Because both sound awkward.

Both sound awkward, and are hard to understand. You could say "Washington was the how-many-eth president?" and be understood, but it isn't really a word--and there IS no such word in English.

The easiest way to ask this would just be (for example): "George Washington was the third president, wasn't he?"
