why? it seems so pointless, and yet we do. I have heard of these "proofs" and they all can be caused by something else.

I beleive that all humans were made in a way we will never know, no god, no heaven, nothing. why this whole test, is it like mice mazes, we are down on earth killing each other in wars, feeling phisical pain and no sign of god, does he not know that people might be being burned alive down on earth?

what do you think?

Congratulations, you have entered the engaging and fascinating field of philosophy. As a scientific person, I believe that the universe is self-existing. If God created the universe, who created God? The universe could just have always existed. Life came about by means of abiogenesis, the creation of life from non-living matter; for example, two amino acids coming together to form the first protein and establishing the building blocks of life. We as humans exist today because of a long and drawn out process of evolution and natural selection. We're just one species inhabiting this massive biosphere called Earth. There really isn't anything special about us. However...

Some people are not happy with this explanation, as reasonable as it is. Even though it is backed by evidence and it has been suggested by science that it is possibly the most likely theory of why were are here, many people do not find any greater meaning in it. They would like to believe we are more than just above-average intelligent apes crawling on a rock in the vastness of space. It can be quite comforting to believe that there is a plan for all of us, there is a reason why we are here. Death is feared because it is so final, it is a romantic notion to think that there is a perfect afterlife we go to after suffering through this world.

So to answer your question more directly, people believe because they are afraid of the unknown. They would like to be told by their religious leaders that they have a path they must follow, and there will be rewards in the end. In reality, no one knows. Not the Atheists, not the Catholics, not the Hindu, nor the Islamic people. No one knows for sure. And that is why there is no peace on Earth... we're not content to be happy and make this life easier on our fellow man. Life is short and we may only get one life. Let's make it as easy on each other as we possibly can.

P.S., there are some people that believe that we choose to come to Earth to learn, kind of like an "Earth-school". Just throwing that out there.

Umm...yeah. Whatever. I think spell check is a good thing, that's for sure. If you don't believe in God, great. That's your choice. Some people find solace in the idea of God and that's their choice as well. If you don't see the point in God, why are looking for signs from something that you don't even believe exists? That's like saying you don't believe in Santa and then you get mad when there's no presents on Christmas day. If you don't believe in the sign maker to begin with, why are you asking for signs?

Honestly, why should a deity that you don't even believe in prove Himself (or Herself) to you? If I was that deity, I wouldn't bother. People are responsible for pain and suffering. People are also responsible for ending it. Stop looking for some sort of divine intervention. If He does exist, He doesn't work that way. If there's a way to solve a problem, be an adult and find a way to solve it.

Outstanding question!

Because, by implication, any deity that demands worship must have some kind of ego problem.

If you are everything, if you were truly the universe personified, then worship would not be a big deal.

But say you were a lesser deity, say an arch-demon like YHWH, whom the Gnostics, the successors of the Nazarenes believed was the equivelent to Satan, then it all makes sense.

Of course Satan wants to be worshipped as a God. Of course, if God in the Bible was Lucifer himself, it makes sense why he would say "I am a jealous god"... jealous of what!!

But loyal satanists and their blissfully ignorant followers find such common sense logic impossible to conceive. Surely the absolute God, the God of the universe would never allow an imposter. Surely, when people dress in white robes and hats and smile to children, they must be good?

People worship God, Because no one has come up with a better thing to worship.
What I think is funny though, is that people used to hear from God all the time ( or that's what the bible Say's) But now day's when you hear from God you get sent to the loony bin.
So whats up that?

In my perfect world, there would be no religions. I think they are the cause of most of the worst crimes against humanity. Look at the Middle East right now. All over religion.

"Religion is something that man does." < Note the period at the end of this sentence. This is a definitive statement on human religion.

Some religions say it is a dualistic illusion.
True Christianity says it is an imposed delusion.
All religions to some extent agree that desire is a
big problem. Not only is it a problem, it is the very reason people worship.

Man eats from desire.
Procreates from desire.
Worships from desire.
Kills from desire.
Learns by desire.
Sees by desire.
Governs other people by desire.
Conducts business by desire.
Keeps people in religious order by desire.
Answers questions by desire, etc.,etc., etc.

Eastern says get rid of it.
False Christianity teaches various levels of denial.

True Christianity teaches death to self, turning all desire to God. "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, with all thy soul, and with all they might."

Whatever one places as top priority (chief desire) in their life is god for that person and is their religion.

I have a rock.It is magic. It protects me from bears as long as I worship it.Some might tell me it is just a rock. But no bear has ever attacked me.So I worship my rock.

That is, in a sense, why people worship God.
