Now, answering your question without sarcasm, sleeping pills are dangerous because it cause dependency. People can easily get addicted to it and you will find yourself only being able to sleep if you take the pill, otherwise you won't sleep. Your brain will keep asking for the drug. Be very careful with those pills and take it just once in a while.
If you are having thoughts of suicidal, medications for depression might be the right pill for you.

Yes. Although they are legal, taking sleeping pills or any pills at that make your body grow dependent on the pills. Meaning there are certain body produces chemicals will cease to be produced depending on the source provided by the pills.
I am not sure about the side effects but you are talking about a long period of time which I doubt have ever been tested, so the side effects caused by the drug may turn from temporary to permanent.
So if anything bad happens it will be considered drug abuse and you will not be eligible for suing the company.
