Hi there, i own a few pigeons that are being bothered by some sort of a fly that likes to get inbetween their feathers, my guess is that its laying its eggs on to the birds feathers, any idea what sort of insect it is and how do i go about getting reed of it?

Don't stress about it. If you don't get rid of the flies and any eggs they've laid when you pluck the pigeons, they will surely be killed by the heat during the cooking process. (PS. I included a link, it is a really tasty recipe for pigeons,... very yum).

Could be Feather Mites. These will make the birds very very itchy and restless. They look black or dark brown with a long shape. You need to seek a vet to prescribe or suggest something to get rid of them, or else they will really infest your birds and their food.

If it's a blue-bottle, it's most likely laying eggs, and your birds will soon die of flystrike if it isn't treated soon, (the larvae will eat it from the inside).

Take them to a vet as soon as possible, the longer you leave it, the longer they're in danger.

Can you kill the fly?? I would try doing that first... hahahhaa
