I have a cockatiel who is handfed and now he is 2 years old. He is a male. Will he be able to raise his babies fine or will he not know what to do? The female is not hand-fed/tamed.

He should be just fine. But he might be a little slow to start. Just be patient. Don't be surprised if the first go around will not produce babies. It is normal if this happens. Just don't be to nosey when they are in the nestbox.

Hope this helps a bit. If you have any further questions feel free to email me.

Good luck!

Bottom-Line: Any Hand-fed Bird mating with a non Hand-fed bird will acquire some of the negative traits if left in to long. In that case, you will have two (2) Breeders. When the male quits sitting on the eggs, if after 23 days, the 1st egg hasn't hatched, wait a couple more for the 2ND. After that, the odds go way down........Good Luck !!

could I ask why a breeding pair..why no longer one happy puppy cockatiel ? Breeding birds { breeding something} choose the right supplementations and food. And in the event that they lay eggs and the eggs hatch..then what? Do you intend to get different cages for the infants while the wean or are you going to sell them ? when you consider that this your first time interior the poultry international, start up with in basic terms a million as a puppy and the certainty you benefit alongside the way, you may latter stick to to a pair of breeders. think of approximately it.

A hand fed baby will be fine as a daddy. It is something that comes naturally to them. There is always a chance that the first time he wont know what to do, but that goes for wild birds as well as your pet birds.Just keep an eye on him. Good luck!!!!!!!!

In my experience hand raised birds are not as good parents as wild ones. The hand raised bird being a male should give less problems than if it were the female. Normally I would not recommend breeding with hand raised birds.

I have a hand fed male cockatiel named Oris, whom I never planned to breed. Unfortunately he really wanted to, and took one of my males females. From my observations he was extremely aggressive, EVEN towards me! and a bit clueless. I wouldn’t recommend breeding your hand fed baby, unless you want him to get a bit wild after.
