Nah, people like to know who they're chatting with. If it's just regular pics then there's nothing tacky about it. Nor are regular pictures that dangerous. Now if you were to take very revealing pictures, or use tacky poses, that might be tacky and might also attract the wrong kind of interest. But regular pictures are fine!

Not so much tacky as dangerous. Not a good idea unless it's for a specific reason (an entrepreneurial website for instance).

nope, that's what technology is for. To help us connect to each other. If it was tacky, then the majority of people would be tacky (this is a loaded answer).

I would be careful of overdoing it and the entire internet becoming myspace though.

I don't think so. I have been in chatrooms and asked people to send me a picture. I like to see what the person looks like and I do the same.
