when this is going to get better? I have been off of it for a week now and I just want to hear that it is only going to be like a week or so more? Anything you did to help yourself feel better would help too. Thanks.

I keep typing Paxil wrong. Apparently, withdrawal makes you stooopid too.

yummymom - Paxil is not an MAOI- It is a Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor.

I am not on this for anxiety - although I have some. I am not getting back on the medication.

To anyone new who may answer- I want someone to answer if you did come off Paxil and it was cold turkey. How long did it take?

Also, Xanax and other similar types of meds are ADDICTIVE!!

Paxil is not addictive but rather has withdrawal. Why would I switch to something I could get addicted to in a short period of time!!!

coming of any drug cold turkey is pretty dangerous stuff, sends your brain into a spin, always wean yourself off slowly under medical supervision. Not much to recommend on how you can make yourself feel better, you will in time, but for now just put a smile on your dial

I can't tell you about anything makeing you feel better but I do know quitting cold turkey really messes up your system and you can start all over again with your symptoms and it is like starting all over again. I ended up in the hospital because the pharmacy I use didnt call me and tell me that the Drug Company couldn't make the paxil CR anymore and they called my family Dr. who told them to give me regular paxil. I was told when I went to pick up the prescription. I called the family Dr and told them that the Psych Dr. had me on Paxil Cr and the millgrams that the Family Dr gave me was NOT even close to comparison for the paxil Cr. It messed up my whole system and my symptoms were even worse than before. When I ended up in the hospital I told the Psych Dr what happened and he told me that I was right and that they had just started making the CR again and so he got me straightened out and I am fine since. I work in a hosptial and ran EMS for a number of years so I do know a little bit about meds and I certainly know how I feel when I take them and when I don't. Paxil is not something to be played around with unless you and your Dr are on the same page.

I took Paxil for 6 months and it was great, but when I decided to get off of it, it was a nightmare. You do need to not stop taking it cold turkey! You need to slowly come off of it, little by little. If not, you could be in for some really bad withdrawal symptoms. I weened off of it, but my withdrawal was horrid. I did the "zapping in my brain" thing for about 3 months. There were times that I thought my brain was absolutely coming undone. But the zapping thing was the worst.
I would make sure that you are still taking them and weening off of it. I would never take it again.

I am adding this site:

http://quitpaxil.org/

On it you will see that it can take six to eight weeks to get through the withdrawl and that is when tapering off the drug. Cold turkey is a risky step.
Good luck!

I took Paxil for 3 years...They DO NOT take you off Cold Turkey. You have to wean off MAOI's....Your doctor should have gradually lowered your doses, to wean you off, or started taking low doses of xanax...or even Clonopin...until the Paxil was done... than you just stop the other anxiety drugs...You should be very careful about just stopping meds like that.

I never had problems going off it but I know many people do. You should trying gradually reducing the dosage instead of quitting cold turkey. Alot of people find this helpful.

I assume you mean Paxil? You should not go off it cold turkey because it causes symptoms that can mimic other health issues. Check out this info: http://www.paxilprogress.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=20cb49b5c99d93330ffcb5f65d45d84c&f=14

I've heard something like a month or so.

I tried quitting cold turkey, and it was a week before I went back and tapered off slowly. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever done.
