Is there any way to configure my OS that way? Or any way that I can fix it? Please help!!!!

All I did was copy the entire Microsoft Office folder in the Program Files folder. Then I transferred it via USB Flash drive.

Help please.

Thanks for the help. The reason I asked is because the other comp came pre-installed with the programs on it. I have no CD. (Also, I'm pretty sure the programs are expensive at retail.)

When those programs are installed they change the registry. If you knew how to change the registry and could locate the appropriate keys then you could try that but my guess is that it would be easier to get your installation cd and install it on the new computer.

hi,i understood your problem.and would like to give you a detailed description. The windows os has a database(collection of files) called windows registry where it stores all the information regarding your installed programs. Now what you have done is just copied the filles from one hard drive to another, and your new computer just treats it as some raw data(like some music, videos strored in your hard drive etc..)The os of your new computer should know that it is a newly installed microsoft office program(word, powerpoint etc),so the microsoft office product will have something called setup files(probably a .exe file) which if run will automatically update your registry. This can also be manually done by editting registry using command called regedit in your command prompt..but if you are not an expert you will end up in even crashing your system. So i would advice you to find out set up files and install using that one.

See you are not here mentionaing any OS Version or your MS Office Version.

So it is difficult to judge the actual problem. But if I am not mistaken what you do is you copied all MS Office information (MS Word, Excell, Power Point) Copied on USB from One Sytem & try to Paste it on Other System or Same System(After formatting the same).

It wont work smoothly because when you install some programms on pc at that time some important System files stored & registered with your system folder.

So best suggestion is please take your installable CD of MS Office & reinstall it.

By doing it that way, you are missing several important files that the applications require, called Dynamic Linked Libraries, or DLLs. Multiple programs use the same DLLs, so they are usually stored in a central location on your computer, so everyone has access to them. That's why the required DLLs weren't in the folder you copied over.

Also by doing it that way, you weren't able to create a registry entry in your operating system that lets it know exactly which DLLS the application needs, so the OS can also make sure those are loaded in memory.

The only way I know of to resolve this problem is to install those programs using the original installation disk.

The programs need to be installed because there are a lot of registry settings that are required for them to operate. If you are extremely careful and know how to extract the associated registry keys and install them in the new machines registry, you might get them to work but your looking at a lot of work. I can be done but it's not easy.

That method only worked with DOS 20 years ago and even then only in some cases.

You must install it on each computer. That should not be a problem if you have a legal copy.
