It is very important that you are rested and calm for your surgery.
So, try these tips here:
Don´t drink any coffee during these three next days.
Don´t drink coke, nor soda.
Drink a lot of chamomile tea (nothing else).
Don´t watch TV.
Listen to very calm and beautiful music before going to bed.
Kneel by your bed and pray to God to give you a good night rest and that He will bless you during and after the surgery.
Close your eyes and relax your muscles, one set at a time:
toes, legs, etc., til you reach your face, lips, eyes, etc.
Have a wonderful night and sweet dreams.
May God be with you.

Don't worry too much about the surgery, that's all. Probably it's your first surgery, but I can assure you that it's not your doctor's first surgery, so you will be ok!
The fact that you are asking about your insomnia/ surgery tells me that they are somehow related!
Don't eat or drink anything from the time they tell you to not to. And believe me once they are done with you, all you will do is sleep, so you will compensate!

Try to keep your mind occupied with something restful like listening to quiet radio music or reading a book that's not too exciting. Sometimes when I can't sleep, I play an "A-B-C" game by going through the alphabet and listing blessings OR things I enjoy (favorite foods, etc). Frequently I fall asleep before I get to "Z". Good luck with your surgery. I'll keep you in my prayers.

you are probably nervous about surgery and that's okay, you are allowed. Just do your best to get through until Thursday. They will give you lovely cocktail shot that will help you go to sleep. For a day or two after surgery you are going to sleep lots and you will catch up for lost time.

Good Luck with your surgery.

I have found that two benadryl capsules work well for most people if you will lay down and relax as soon as the drowsiness begins.
