I am truly confused about speaking in tongues. I've had some people tell me that I need to speak in tongues, or I'll go to hell. It is highly frustrating, and I'm starting not to care.

I speak in tongues. You will not go to hell if you don't. It's the evidence of being Baptized in the Holy Spirit. I was Baptized a full week before I began speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He won't force you. It is important because having the Holy Spirit is what gives you power to be bold in your witness.

Tongues means to speak a different language that can actually be interepreted by another person. So no, I only speak English. To speak words that are not even a language is jibberish. God made all the languages of the world, why do we need to try to invent a new language. It is very clear in the Bible that without an interpretor you shouldn't speak in another tongue.

If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior you will go to heaven. Speaking in tongues has nothing to do with your salvation. The day you are saved, you are filled with the Holy Spirit 100%. You can't gain a little here and a little there. It is a gift from God don't abuse it.

First of all speaking in tongues is one of the gifts given by the Holy Spirit- it is not a necessity for salvation. I was saved for many years before God gave me that gift. I only speak in tongues in my private time with the Lord. Where in scripture does it say- Jesus Christ died for your sins, but the one thing that you need to do is speak in tongues to be saved- NO NO NO. If you do speak in tongues remember that if you do this in a public setting there must be an interpreter. I had a friend that told me for yrs, that I was not saved due to the fact I did not speak in tongues- this is not true!! If you accepted Christ as your savior and are living for Him that is all God looks at.

No I have never spoke in tongues and I don't plan to. The evidence that someone is saved is that they will have the fruits of the Spirit within their lives. (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forgiveness ... etc)
If anyone tells you that you need to speak in tongues or you are going to hell, ask them where that is found in the scriptures. They won't be able to and I guarantee you that if they try to back up that doctrine with scripture they have a serious misunderstanding of what the Bible teaches. The Bible does not teach that you need to speak in tongues in order to become saved... period.

I've heard it all . The only way you go to hell is by not confessing the Lord Jesus. Yes I speak in other tongues but it is a gift from God. If you are born again, saved( confessed Jesus as Lord) that gift is in you and it will come out sooner or later. And believe me some are later. God wants you to have it more than you want it because it brings with it power from on high. Just thank God you have it and think you receive it. It is yours.

I asked this question awhile ago and decided that God gives His children gifts He chooses to give. Tongues is one of them. Not everyone gets the same gifts, including tongues. So, I do not believe you have to speak in tongues to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. I know The Holy Spirit indwells me, yet I do not have the gift of tongues. Don't stop caring, just start reading the Word more. I did in this area at the time and it helped clarify this for me.

That was probably a Pentecostal. I do not believe you have to speak in tongues to go to heaven that's just nuts to me. Besides if you are speaking and nobody understands you then it benefits no one. The disciple's on the day of Pentecost spoke so that everyone understood in their own language. If nobody understands you its not from God and is of the devil.

I haven't, and I do not believe it is a requirement for salvation. I agree with Esther on that part. But I said haven't, because I may if God wishes so, but the Bible says that there will be an interpreter there, if such was the case.
