Are the priests always there in the confession booths in the day, or is it only around mass?
I'm not really a Catholic right now; I just want to talk to one of the priests

Call the parish office, they will tell you when priests are in the confessionals- I explained in an answer to your other question how that works for Non-Catholics.

If the times aren't convenient, the priest will make an appointment at a time that is good for you. Good nes is, during Lent, there are more times for Confession scheduled.

The priest is still bound by the seal of the Confessional, even if you are not Catholic, It means he will reveal to NO ONE what you tell him. It's pretty awesome!

They are only there when Confessions are scheduled. If you need to talk to a priest, simply call the rectory and make an appointment. Or you can wait until a mass has ended and talk to him then. You don't actually have to attend the mass but you can wait outside until the people leave.

Remember some churches no longer have confessionals. They set up a private area where you talk to a priest face-to-face. If this freaks you out, other arrangements can be made to accomodate you.

Most Catholic churches post the times when priests are available for confession. If you just want to talk to a priest, confession might not be the best place to do it. You can call and schedule an appointment with one, though.

If you're not Catholic, you need to talk with the priest. Call his office and schedule a time, ask him whatever you like.

You can talk to a priest if you so choose, and you can make appointments- but let me tell you something- you do not have to go through a priest- you can go directly to God. He is waiting to hear you and reveal Himself to you=

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is received only at certain times of the week or by appointment.

Feel free to call your local parish for the schedule or to make an appointment.

With love and prayers in Christ.
