a couple people said when you commit suicide, you hurt the people around you and also said, by commiting suicide, you are preventing your true time to leave this earth. but my quesiton is, if you are so depressed and sad and confused and lost about current situations in life, then,ISNT THAT YOUR TIME TO GO? if someone cant handle certain things, maybe cause of a chemical imbalance, then how will one be abe to handle bigger problems and help the world and others(the purpose why God put us on this earth) i can see where suicide is morally wrong, by taking your life, but, as Catholics, we are taught God is forgiving and Jesus gave his life to absolve all sins for man. i admit the main thing stopping me from commiting suicide is not being allowed into the Glory of Heaven. but is suicide so much worse than doing drugs/smoking/drinking and other harmful things to your body when you now your killing yourself like that?

To kill or murder ones self is wrong. One cannot repent from murdering oneself so there is no way to reconcile the sin.

I have never been a catholic. I am a born again Christian. I don't believe that depression, confusion, etc. is an indicator that it's your time to go. It is an indicator that their are demonic forces that are trying to convince you that death is the only way to feel better. I'm not talking about demonic possession like you see in movies. Demons cannot hurt you physically. But they can convince you to hurt yourself. Demons are deceivers. I know this because 7 years ago, I was suicidal myself. I got through it by praying to Jesus that these demons would go back to hell and leave me alone, by reading my bible, and by checking in with friends and ministers from my church. I know a few people who are catholic and they do not believe that they can pray directly to Jesus. I don't know if the rest of what I wrote goes against your beliefs or not. But, I think at very least you should get help from your priest or some other spiritual adviser.

Just to let you know, a suicide can decimate a family. It can cause lingering depression in those left behind, it can cause feelings of worthlessness in children of the suicide victim, it can cause needless stress that can lead eventually to a heart attack on the part of the parent of the suicide victim.

Suicide is SO much more than hurting people around you. Hurt people get over it eventually. The effect of suicide in the family NEVER goes away. There are always so many unanswered questions.

If you need someone to talk to, feel free to let one of us know. But don't do this. A problem is NEVER so big that you can't get out of it. The pain CAN go away without having to kill yourself. Sometimes we need to handle the problems near ourselves and trust that our little actions CAN and WILL make a big impact on the world. You don't have to save the whole world, it's too big; just do what you can to help the people near you. PLEASE talk to someone about this.

Your question assumes pre-destination. This belief is incompatable with the reality of Free Will. God never wills bad things to happen but He does allow it to happen. bad thing will happen through no fault of the victim. Much of the time, however, bad things happen due to a person's own negligence. In this case, "offing one's self" to escape from trouble is morally unacceptable.

Redemptive suffering is part of the life of a Christian. Why some people suffer more than others? I don't know. That's God's territory.

Jesus commanded us to "love one another as you love yourself." Suicide is a violation in loving one's self - and that is why it constitutes mortal sin material.

God's capacity for forgiveness is infinate. However, He will only forgive those who repent for their sins. God is not a fool. You cannot take advantage of His Forgiveness.

Doing anything that harms the body is sinful. Becoming addicted to drugs, smoking, alcohol, sex, whatever, is as much a violation of the Fifth Commandment as suicide its. But that is irrelevant. You cannot justify one evil by pointing to others.

People in this much despair must look to the good in the world; look to the guidance of the Church, not seek affirmation of the bad in other evil deeds.

I am a Catholic and I feel that those who are so depressed, so distraught that they feel they have no choice but to end their life are not in their normal state of mind. God, being a just, fair and loving God, will take this into consideration when judging that person. Drug use, smoking and drinking can also mean a person is not in their right state of mind. We aren't God so we don't know how He will judge. Only God knows what is in our heart and what state our mind is in, therefore we cannot say what will happen to those individuals.

God bless,
Stanbo

I have a chemical imbalance and was very suicidal. I prayed and prayed, and thought I must not be a good enough christian if God wouldnt' heal me. Then he came to me and said I needed to get over my pride and ask for help. I went to the Dr and was put on anti depressants. The whole event changed my life. I am now able to help others, and am able to help others around me. God sends us people to help us. The devil will want you to think that is is ok to give up on life because of whatever reasons seem logical...don't believe him.

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

With love and prayers in Christ.

Suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness and God wants our character to exhibit traits of unselfishness. God will take you when your time is come and the Bible says they he will not tempt you with more than you are able to bear, without making a way to escape. So I would say you need to find the way to escape your problems, because the way to escape that God has given you is not suicide (because that is not His character). You need to find the escape God has provided for you and not your own way of escape, which will only be worse for you in the long run.

Suicide isn't in God's plan. It's against God's plan. It's the act of playing God on your own life.

People who commit suicide don't land in Hell. They get reincarnated right away for another round. Hence why suicide doens't solve anything.

"if someone cant handle certain things"

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Try to pray about this and really take it to heart. God knows how much you can handle and He will not allow you to carry more than you can bear. Give whatever is wrong more time, and pray about it, too.

Did it ever occur to you that God allows weakness and sickness in some, in order to provide others with the opportunity to give of themselves, by helping those in need?

Let God be God.

In the mean time, just be.
