What can a middle-class family with two children and a dog, living in Hawaii, do to live more environmentally sound? Seems like it is more costly and time-consuming to be eco-friendly -which is hard with a budget, family and little time, not to mention everything has to be shipped to the island. (Our carbon footprint is about 7 tons per year.)

The old sheets and whatever old cloths that you have, sew them into bags, carry the bags to the store with you and rather than paper or plastic, use the bags you made that were going into landfill anyways.
This will save twice, it saves the old cloth, it saves all the handy bags that are used to transport items from store to transport to house by not using them.
A cistern or something like that could be used for toilet water, it is such a waste to use what is Potable water to flush into a system that needs cleaning anyways.
Bicycles are FUN!
Push Mowers or Rotary Mowers, I used one as a kid and they do not use Petroleum.
Set the thermostat at ONE temperature and leave it there. That is the idea of a thermostat, one comfortable or survivable temp.

Another thing you can do is recycle. If you have a local scrap yard, they may even be willing to pay you for some of you stuff. I do HVCR; heating, ventilation, cooling and refrigeration. Stuff I'm supposed to throw away are environmentally unsound to toss out. Items like copper, old ACs, and old outdoor units. Now refrigerate is regulated, needing to be recycled by law. The other stuff I recycle, and make a good bit on the side. At home, I recycle bags, cans, jars, paper, even cardboard boxes. Soda cans, can be recycled for money as well. All kinds of things can be recycled to be used again and again.

Many unfavourable with unfavourable residing circumstances and jobless and many extra beneficial than maximum western countries or maybe extra beneficial than in some Asian countries. there is and constantly would be room for progression. that's no longer in straight forward terms the governments accountability yet in addition the accountability of the unfavourable to desire to extra effective themselves. The Philippines has a historic previous of unfavourable people who've risen to prosperity by way of no longer ordinary artwork and desire to get out of the slums. Manny Villar and Manny Pacquaio are the 1st 2 who spring to recommendations. are you able to call extra?

wear green cloths, paint your house green, drive a green car. Actually doesn't Hawaii have volcano's. Well then, volcano's aren't very greenhouse friendly are they? Guess you could start by filling those craters and calderas then. nature at its worse. Guess not all things in nature are good for the environment.

put your mind to it. its not that hard, you'll find a bunch of ways if you look. really. but a good start is to find all the recycleable products in your trash and separate them when you take it out. :)
