Hey we have this question again!!

still too early to tell...

Circular Quay bumped up to 2nd in the running after his win yesterday... i don't know what to think about him... he wasn't racing against any of the big names (yes he was running against imawildandcrazyguy and birdsbirdistheword and liquidity, but none of them are any of the big name contenders like Nobiz or Scat Daddy or Great Hunter or Stormello or Notional...)... and even though he wasn't racing any of the big names, he ran most of the race in last place... he did make a great closing run to win from the last turn... but if he's 17 lengths off the leader in the Derby, I don't think he can close against that field like he did with this one. I haven't seen him race other than that... i know he got stuck behind the horses who fell and let Notional go win in his last race... I'd like to see another race from this colt before ranking him.

Great Hunter did close really well last week to win at Santa Anita... But he's another one who didn't race anyone special. They should have raced Liquidity last weekend and Great Hunter this weekend... they'd have better matchups that way. I dunno... I like Great Hunter he has a good record and I think he could do well in the Derby.

Nobiz Like Shobiz... early last month he was my pick... then I saw him run last weekend in the fountain of youth. He swung out around the first turn and was 5 wide from the rail even though there were no horses beside him... if they can train that out of him, he'd have a shot... but he can't win the Derby if he acts like that... he'd have to have an amazing closing run to make up for the time he loses.

Stormello... good run last weekend and finished 3rd against 2 big name contenders... but still doesn't have much of a shot at the Derby... He led the whole Fountain of Youth until the stretch when he was very clearly out of energy. And the Derby is a much longer race than the Fountain of Youth... he has a lot more conditioning to do if he's going to run as a leader and win at a distance of a mile and a quarter.

Scat Daddy got no attention before the Fountain of Youth and it was really really unfair to him. He ran a good race and closed well. He has 3 wins of 5 starts, and I think he has a good shot in the Derby.

I'm still not going to tell you who wins because i don't think it's possible yet... but I'd look out for Great Hunter and Scat Daddy... and with a bit more training and a couple more races before the first Saturday in May, I think Nobiz and Circular would have a great shot too.

Like I said last week, it's still to early to say. There are 54 days to the Derby...LOL! The Florida Derby, Tampa Bay Derby and the Kentucky races have yet to be run...

They are putting blinkers on Nobiz hoping to put his focus on racing and not what's going on around him. Several of the horses I saw run over the week-end have to be nose to nose with another horse to put forth their best effort. I don't yet know if that is "laziness" or a lack of focus . These horses are still young and need several races to really learn.

We haven't even seen Street Sense this year, likewise CP West. The coming 54 days will tell us alot.

whoever is not the favorite. only 2 favorites have won the derby in the last 25 years. I think it'll be someone we don't expect. I'll go with Scat Daddy because he won the Fountain of Youth and still Great Hunter and Circular Quay are rated in front of him.

It's still way too early to tell and with a twenty horse field, post position will play a very important factor. I did make a small wager on Notional in the future betting pool at 22 to 1, hopefully he draws a good post.

a horse with northern dancer in his pedigree...with about 1 to 1.24 M in graded stakes earnings...and running out of the 5 to 8 post...tracking the pace from 5 or 6 lengths off,Garrett Gomez or Corey Nakatani aboard...

Whomever the hell Todd Pletcher trains because it seems this is his year.

We will go with Circular Quay.

I still think Stormello has a good shot. But I think post position will have a lot to do with it, as it did last year.
