I owned a 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi and it's the luxury equal to the Dodge Avenger, but my insurance car did not place it in either the luxury category or the sports car category. I paid pretty cheap rates on the car.

I would ,however, consider the Dodge Stealth to be a true sports car. Especially the R/T models.

It depends on the definition of "sports car." I would consider it more a "sporty" car - they really don't handle very well. generally, a sports car has to have balanced handling. This does not imply great traction - many older sports cars (and some current ones) don't have this. Handling is the way the car behaves AFTER you exceed the available traction - in other words, whether the front slides more easily,or the rear - or if they both tend to run out of traction at the same time (this is really the ideal.)

Unfortunately, the Dodge Avenger runs out of front traction very early - I've had cars built in the early 60s that did better...its a shame, really.

I had a 98 Avenger with the Mitsu v6. It considered it a sports car because it was fast, I was beating cars with a v8. Its a sports car in disguise I called it. But that was all until about 2 months after I bought it (new) and started having problems because it was a piece of crap. I loved the look of it, but had to get rid of it.

Well, let me put it this way. For the people that say no, what category would you put it in? It is a sporty 2 door coupe, made by Mitsubishi with a dodge body on it, and a peppy little motor. What would you call it? a family sedan? Oh, wait sedan is 4 doors...

No way. The only Dodge that can fit that bill is the Viper.
