My boyfriend is harmful to me, he has a problem with drinking and drugs but i just can't seem to bring myself to gather up his things and get him out the door. I feel compeled to call him, when i know i shouldn't and don't even want to. i miss him, the old him, but i've been trying to change this habit of his for 4 years and it's just getting worse. today he said he doesn't want to be with a girl like me. wtf is that suposed to mean? I'm trying to help him but i just want to give up now. this is going no where and he is dragging me down with him. it's like a disease, i want to be with him, i want to sleep with him and wake up with him, spend my days with him, but he doesn't. it's so hard for me to stop calling him. so yesterday i went out with friends and came home to find him here in my bed, after me begging him to come home for a week. i realised he only wants me when i'm not here. how do people break up and stop thinking about them?

The only way to break up is the Band-Aid approach. This is always very painful at first but ultimately the least painful way to go. It will take a lot for you to tear yourself away from this person, but keep in mind, you don't love him, you love the old him. You can love the old him without having to be with him. He sounds like a handful, I would get some help from your friends and leave when he is not around. Resist the urge to leave a number or address. Think Band-Aid.

Yes, I agree with the answer before me. You're not in love with him, you're in love with the old him. It's a good thing that you realize you need to let him go. You've been trying hard for so many years. You can't really help someone who doesn't want to be helped.
Is this your place or his place? It's better to leave. Pack your things and just go. Start new somewhere else. New place will give you new strength to move on, new beginning. It would be like living a new life. You don't have to move to another city or somewhere far. Just get out from that place.
If you have to stay where you live now, pack all his things (when he's not home) and put them inside near the door. Change the keys & phone number. When he came back, ask him to leave. This is hard, so ask a friend to help you. It would be harder this way, cause he could come back anytime, and beg you to take him back. This is hard but you got to do what's right for you. Be strong, girl. You could do it.
