sounds like it would be too quick of a reaction to be pox and contact dermatitis is likely (from the new softner) but you should go to your family medical doctor to determine what it could be.
is he running a fever? if not, even less likely for the pox scenario.
don't worry if it's the chicken pox - it passes, he'll just need your time, love, and attention. oh, and plenty of food in bed :) the pox was a memorable experience for me, my mom and I really bonded then!
PS: Chicken pox has NOT been "Wiped Out" (or erradicated). that's nonsense.

Ok, first of all, calm down.
I know what ur going through because I'm 13 and when I was 11, i didn't know if i had the chicken pox or not, either.
What I did was I called the doctor and went to see him and he told me that I did have them, so I knew it. BUT DON"T WORRY IF HE DOES HAVE THEM!!!!! Most people get them at some point, and mine only lasted for like, a week or something. If he does have them, though, Use some calomine lotion on all of his little red bumps (even if there are a lot) and use an oatmeal bath (omigosh they feel so good!!!) and that'll make him feel a lot better. Also, when he goes back to school for the first couple of days, have him wear a long shirt and long pants just in case he is still contageous, because you're usually contageous for a few days after you're done with them, too.
Hope this helped!!!

If he had chicken pox he would have had a really high fever the week before the rash and would have had to be exposed to another person with the chicken pox. I believe that it might be "chiggers" since he was outside in the spinkler and they are small might that dig into the skin and cause redness and severe itching. I really don't believe it was the change in clothes soap cause it would take a longer exposure to the new detergent to see a reaction.
Also chicken pox look like small red bumps with an indented dark core and sometimes a little puss looking like severe acne all over the body.
You might try giving bendryl in case it is a allery to something. It will help with itching as well. If you get really worried take hin to the doctor.

It may be an allergic reaction to the grass. My oldest is allergic to grass and every time he plays in it he gets a rash on the back of his neck and on his stomach. If it is Chicken Pox, the best thing to do is to rub him down with Calamine Lotion. I'm sure you know that there is no cure for Chicken Pox.

below are 2 links the 1st has photos of chicken pox the second has photos of hives which is what you usually get from an allergic reaction. I would change the sheets and blankets just to be safe. if the was rolling in the grass that could cause it if he is allergic. a small dose of beneDryl will help with the hives. look at the photos then call your Dr and ask what you can give him. for itching aveno anti itch cream works way better than calamine for me.

calm down, and wait it out hun. even if it is the chicken pox, theyre not exactly a deadly disease. if he doesnt develop a fever or other symptoms, then its probably the fabric softener. if he gets a fever, do the usual chicken pox routine. lots of fluids, put some dry oats in a blender and pulse til fine ground and add to bathwater with a cup of milk. tylenol as needed and call the doc to check in. :) dont worry, its prolly nothing.

If he has sensitive skin ,the water could have welted him it it was too hard. I wouldn't panic even if it chicken pox. It is a common childhood disease that may be worse if gotten as an adult. Can make grown man sterile. Kids are supposed to get them.No big deal !

ok. dont send him out until you call the doctor then take him there and he will tell you. if you cannot go to the doctor then try to remember where they started. if they started on his back then it probably is chicken pox. give him some benadryl and use calomine (or however you spell it) lotion and put it on him. keep him in quarentine until they scab up or else he'll end up giving it to everyone else and make sure he doesn't scratch! it'll give him a nasty scare.

Cover them with calomine solution and take him to the doctor if it persists and over symptoms (fever, spreading) emerge,
Sounds more like an allergy, than like chicken pox

could be chiggers in the grass. chiggers in the grass will give a rash-like appearance on the skin. don't let him play outside anymore.
