either good or bad influence - I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but I can't get Stalin and Pol Pot out of my head - a little help?

Stalin and Pol Pot were indeed atheists. It isn't fair to lump all atheists into these guys little circle of monsters, to be sure. No system of belief / non-belief can claim a lack of evil men, including Christianity and/or Atheism.

Being a theist, I haven't paid much attention to influential atheists, so I value your feedback.

Richard Dawkins is up there. Friedrich Nietzsche too. Alfred Ayer... George H. Smith... Noam Chomsky... Carl Sagan, I could never figure out if he was an atheist or agnostic.

Currently, Bill Gates, Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan

Oh how I am tempted to use the christian tactic of claiming that Stalin and PolPot were not "true" atheists.

But I will not. Stalin and PolPot did not behave badly claiming that bad behavior in the name of no god beliefs, unlike their christian counterparts who did indeed claim their bad behavior in the name of their god.

Have to be specific people? I've donated several times to Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Red Cross, the National Suicide hotline, more then once have cut my hair to donate it to Locks-of-Love... I'm sure there are others that do a lot too...maybe grouped together we can been seen as better then the negative people (that aren't even a part of us) that you have stuck in your head?

oh brother ...i can hear richard dawkins name coming up.....that is their god......*rolling eyes*

*edit* Murray Ohaire her son William, who eventually became a born-again Christian and preacher and whose extreme antipathy towards his mother is made explicit in his writings said "My mother was an evil person ... Not for removing prayer from America’s schools ... No ... She was just evil. She stole huge amounts of money. She misused the trust of people. She cheated children out of their parents’ inheritance. She cheated on her taxes and even stole from her own organizations. She once printed up phony stock certificates on her own printing press to try to take over another atheist publishing company---

yeah great example!!!

Stalin and Pol Pot weren't atheists, they thought THEY were God.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Angelina Jolie, Richard Dawkins.

I think Sagan was atheist - I remember it was his work that pulled me from agnostic to atheist - I realized I was just playing it safe.

Marylin Ohair would be my top vote (not sure if I spelled the name right though). She is the one that got school prayer killed.
