I have never understood this, and I have seen it all of my life. Some Christians treat animals and the environment like they should be abused and destroyed. They don't even believe in Global Warming - and their is actual proof of that ( and has been for years).
In Genesis it states that "...fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth." That means to take control of resources - to use them. But the thing is is that if mankind uses them all up, God will not replace them. He gave limited supplies wanting us to be wise enough not to waste and destroy. Why don't people want to believe that? Why do people want to keep killing endangered species and cutting down rain forests?

My parents raised me to be the kind of Christian who takes care of the environment. Don't litter, recycle. What about you?

It's all in the moral values. It's very, very hard to find a Christian with moral values these days. They've just become too materialistic.

I do understand your point, but I also have this to say. Why do some Muslims litter and not recycle? Why do some Buddists (like in Japan) over fish the oceans? Why do those who practice Hindu overly use fossil fuels? No matter what religion is being practiced, humans of all nations and beliefs have done something that has harmed the environment. You can't expect everyone to think or place as much importance on something that you may feel passionate about, no matter how good it might be for them or for mankind for that matter. Why do people smoke when there is proof stacked sky high that says that if you do, you may develop cancer or emphysema or whatever! Why do people with AIDS still have unprotected sex? There are so many questions out there that we will not have the right answer for. I sometimes feel that Christians are progressively getting a bad rap, when in truth it is the individuals who committ these bad actions or crimes, and not the fact that they may be christians or because they call themselves christians. Members of the KKK also identify themselves as being christians. So why are some Christians racists? I don't know, and I don't want to know.

Because the worse it gets, the more reinforcement it brings in the belief that Jesus day is soon at hand. So if things went well, while Satan still ruled the Earth, It would defeat the entire principals thought in the bible about the last days being the worst ever seen or experienced by mankind. Sort of like feeling the burn when lifting weights or swishing Listerine after brushing your teeth. You feel as if, there has to be calamity before rebirth.

I cannot speak for those Christians but as a Wiccan it always makes me happy to see someone else who cares about the environment and Mother Earth. Keep spreading the word that we must respect our planet or surely we will not continue to exist. We are all a part of Nature and not separate from it. We must do our part to help Her to heal from the damage we have done to Her.

In my case, it seems as though I don't, because I don't wish to be associated with the movement. There are too many Birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging, Mother-Earthing wackos at the forefront for my tastes, so I avoid it altogether.
I do my part to recycle, and I even took a "carbon-footprint" test that showed me better than average on reducing mine, contrary to what the High Priest of Environmentalism (Al Gore) does in his own home.
As to your Global Warming comment, there is also proof against Global Warming that you do not acknowledge. There are meteorologists who are ostracized when they advocate a differing viewpoint.
Besides, in the 70's there was "actual proof" that an ice age was imminent. I am still waiting for that to come true.

Because they believe that everything on this earth was made for them. The animals ,the plant, the earth itself was created for man and so we can do with it as we please. I think the Native Americans had the right idea. They treated the earth as Mother Earth. What they had to eat was a gift to them and they left nothing to waste. When they killed an animal, Every part of the animal was used. Meet was food, bones made tools or weapons, the brains were used to tan hides and the hides (skin) was clothing or covering for homes etc. . . Let's go back to that and be free of cluter and waste.

I haven't really met a Christian that didn't care for the environment. The ones I meet think that we should take care of the earth because God gave it to us to use. In fact, my conservative christian dad got angry today at someone running their car while talking to someone else. (He thought she was polluting the air)

The first laws that ever dealt with not being cruel to animals is in the Torah.
The first laws on protecting the environment were also in the Torah.
They also had global warming in those days due to cow flatulents. Now, who's fault is THAT?

Don't know where you get your information.
"My parents raised me to be the kind of Christian who takes care of the environment. Don't litter, recycle. What about you?"
They raised you well. But did they also teach you not to generalize and condemn others without cause?

Your question should read why do some people not care about the environment.
Your quote from Genesis is not binding to Christians, but only to Jews.
Christianity deals with the resurrection not the environment. Should people care about the environment? Yes. Should Christians, only as people.
