I think as long as you're clear that it's your initial choice of tattoo that you dislike, rather than the artist's work, then they won't be in the least insulted. People do change their minds about tattoos, particularly ones they didn't really think trhough all that much in the first place, and s/he'll be used to that. If anything, it's actually a vote of confidence to go back to the same artist - you're saying you'd like to have them tattoo you again, and I don't see why they'd have a problem with that.

My only other comment would be that, as doing cover-ups is quite challenging, you may want to look into other artists who specialise in this work.

Hope this helps!

what is the reason that you want to get the tattoo covered up? did the artist do a bad job on it? is your original artist good at doing coverups? is there a better artist accessible to you? all of these things should factor in. i'm not sure if the artist would be insulted or not but it's your body, not his. i am great friends with my tattoo artist and i would not hesitate to get another artist to tattoo me, however i will not be getting any of my current work covered up because it is well done and stuff i thought about for a long time before getting, so no regrets here.

It all depends on why you are getting it covered up, is it a name? If you feel uncomfortable going to the same person because you think they will get insulted than go some where else, but honestly I don't think they will get insulted because you are coming back to them to get it overed up. What you should think of is, Is this artist going to do a good job at covering it up because tattoos are permanent and I regret two tattoos I got, more or less the location of them. Well help this helps!!!!

Go back to your original artist, i worked in a studio, you have no idea how many people want early work covered up, its no surprise or insult. Peoples tastes change as they get older and what was once cool, is not any longer. It happens way more than you think. I have many ta2's and had my 1st one covered over, all have been done by the same guy. Peoples 1st ta2 tends to be a bit of an experiment, to see how it feels etc so, from that perspective not only will your artist understand, he will be flattered you came back to him. ta2 artists are like therapists--when you find a good one--stick with them! LOL! good luck 2 u

I'd go back to the artist who did it, but if you don't feel comfortable than go elsewhere.

it's up to you.
