It depends entirely upon the anesthetic that you get.
Most people do not dream, although some will. For the anesthetics that I give for colonoscopies (total iv general anesthesia) many of them dream. Usually good dreams, like going fishing, or having a barbecue. (Lots of people ask what I gave them, and can they take it home with them... answer - propofol and NO)
If you have a deep general, with the breathing tube and gas and all that good stuff, you are very unlikely to dream. It feels like time just stops, and then restarts in the recovery room.
There IS brain activity while under anesthesia (except in the rare use of burst suppression in neurosurgery cases), but it isn't dreaming.
Hope that helps.

I've had surgery a few times and if I dreamt, I don't remember a second of it. All I know is that one minute I'm awake and what feels like the next, I'm waking back up.

no- general anesthesia suppresses all brain activity. if you were to monitor an eeg, it would look like brain death. that means you aren't dreaming. now as you're waking up, it's very possible to have dream-like activity, but not while under anesthesia.
