You doing the only thing you can.

There are two types of abscess'. Tooth and jaw.

The tooth one occurs when a pieces of food or plaque enter a cavity. It gets the tooth infected and a abcsess is created. If you look at an x-ray that a dentist takes, normally it shows as a small dot normally by a root. This is a pouch containing poison. A dentist won't touch you until it is fully gone. That is why he/she gave you antibiotics.

A jaw abscess is when a food or plaque enter your jaw through the area around your tooth. As you get older, your gums receed and create gabs around your tooth. The jaw gets infected this way. Like stated before by another member, this takes longer to heal.

Simply do as you are doing. There is nothing much you can do. I know it is hard but whatever you do, don't plus on the swelling or try to rupture it. If the abscess gets ruptured, the poison can enter your system and make you real sick. It could enter your brain and might even kill you.

My best to you and hope this helps.

You didn't mention if you've seen a dentist yet. If not, you need to make an appointment and do so. The only way you can get the abscess to drain is for the dentist to open it and allow it an access opening. There are different types of antibiotics that take care of different infections, so the dentist needs to prescribe them based on his diagnosis. You can gargle all you want, it may make it feel better, but it's not a cure and neither are antibiotics. See your dentist tomorrow so you can save the tooth, the surrounding bone and get you out of pain. Good luck, and I hope you will take my advice. An abscess is very serious and not something to wait on addressing.

Not all abscess can be drained. If it can,the dentist has to do it with a clean dental instrument.Keep taking antibiotics.Within 48 hours the pain should be getting better. You have to finish the whole cycle.Don't stop taking them even the pain stops. That's how it works. For the pain take some Advil's.You can take 4 at a time.Which will be 800 ml.You may need a surgery later. But for now make sure you take your antibiotics.

It all depends if the absess is in the bone of the jaw. If it is, it can take forever to clear because it's hard for antibiotics to reach into the bone. Hang in there and keep your dentist posted as to how it's coming.

IZA,
DENTAL ABSCESSES, ESPECIALLY PAINFUL ONES, ARE VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING. THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO YOURSELF TO DRAIN IT.
PLEASE SEE A DENTIST A.S.A.P.

2 cap fulls of peroxide and 1/4 cup of water... hold in mouth (DO NOT SWALLOW) for about 30 seconds... repeat several times through the course of each day... usually takes a couple days to work.
