Could you technically lose weight eating ice cream if you only ate, say 500 calories of it a day, and nothing else for about a week?

lettuce has 0 grams of fat. calories are important, sure, but sugar and fat content is the main ingredients that make you gain weight. so no- calorie for calorie in any food will be different unless it's calorie for calorie and fat for fat, sugar for sugar.

Technically, a calorie is a calorie. However, if you only ate 500 calories of ice cream per day, you'd be getting more fat than if you ate 500 calories of lettuce. Ice cream contains calcium, fat, salt and some other elements. Lettuce contains next to no nutritional value, unless it's dark green, and even then it wouldn't be enough to keep you healthy. Ice cream is lacking in things like Vit C and A, and B vitamins which you need for nerve healthy. There is also no fiber, which your body needs.

If you eat only 500 calories a day, your body is going to try to hang onto the energy in preparation for starving. You will not feel good! I think your question is just hypothetical, I hope.

Lettuce will take more calories to digest than it has and ice cream has sugar and fat. So it would be a difference. 500 calories a day of anything will cause you to lose weight in the begining but not in a healthy way. The weight you do lose is mostly water and muscle. When your body doesn't get enough calories it goes into starvation mode and stores as much fat as possible and uses lean muscle as fuel. Then your metabolism is slowed because muscle burns more calories than fat and know you have stored fat and lost muscle. In the end it will be harder to reach your goal weight.

Yes, you would probably lose weight. But if you're thinking of doing that, it is a NO NO!!! it is not really healthy... all you gots to do is eat healthy (whole grain and vegetables are good) and go work out and excersize (maybe ride your bike or run or swim). and well two hundred calories of lettuce and twohundred calories of ice cream are different cuz ice cream has a lot of sugar and stuff. and calories is just energy so yeah.

You would have to eat a truck load of lettuce to make it 200 calories.
The ice cream would be a small amount.
And concerning losing weight..... please don't do an ice cream diet. You will starve.

You don't need a diet, you need a new way of eating healthy. Watching portions and eating healthy.

Food is what your body lives on. If you eat just ice cream you will be missing lots of vitimines and minerals. It is best to eat three small meals a day and three or four small snacks a day. Plenty of fresh vegtables and fruit. The key is balance.
You want your body to look great.......you need to eat great.

Funny thing about food. Without a good dietitian, most weight loss diets are not as successful as one would expect. I think the reason is because what is diet food for one individual might not be for another. A few years ago, I was 60 pounds overweight. Tried every diet and expercise. Lost very little. THEN, I developed my own special diet that seems to work for most people that use it. Here it is: IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT! Only eat the foods that you dislike. Believe me, you'll lose plenty of weight. Just combine it with one vitamine pill per day and a glass of water with each meal. Good Luck.

No, those calories aren't the same. Lettuce is mostly water, very little by way of sugars, and has fiber (which by the way binds to sugars and fats in the intestine and helps to keep them from being absorbed).

Ice cream is loaded to the ceiling with sugar. Sugar triggers the release of insulin from the pancreas and the insulin tucks that sugar straight into the fat cells.

200 cals is 200 cals no matter the source.
To ans the icecream portion, if it is only 500 cals, and that is all you ate that day, yes you would lose weight. You need to calculate out how much you burn daily based on your weight and activity level first of all and then know that for every 3500 calories that you consume above what is burned of will lead to one pound of body weight.

Never eat less than 1300 calories a day. If you do, your metabolism will slow down and you will burn less calories. Also, if you lose fat too fast, it will be hard to keep off. It's best to lose about 1 pound a week.

Callories are callories, wherever they come from
You can't live on just ice cream. You need a whole range of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and such to be healthy. The best way to stay slim is to eat a good balance or the different foods, and do exercise
