if you see a girl you think is cute like at a concert or some event, are you more likely to approach her if she's by herself or if she's with one or two of her girlfriends?

by herself cuz i have noticed that friends can help sway them away. For example, if 2 of her friends doesn't like me or doesn't like how i look, she will be embarrassed to even accept my offer.

Just be patient, you're still very young. It happens when you least expect it. You did good about that summertime guy. It would have been a disaster as you did not have enough time to get to know one another and then you would have been crushed by the separation. Do you remember to smile when a boy looks your way (provided you like him). Remember most boys are more shy and more afraid than you, everybody is afraid of rejection, I don't know why as it does not kill and at the very least you know where you stand. The next guy stares at you, smile and add a little hand wave and that should get you started in the right direction. If he smile back he's def. interested and he should come to talk to you. If not it may only be 'cause he still is not sure on what to say to you, you should then try to wave him to come over or if close enough as him " can we chat?"

I have never tried approaching a girl in public that I didn't know, but I am going to try and start. I think that I would be less likely to go up to a girl in a group then a girl that is alone. I would feel more comfortable that if I got shot down, the girl alone wouldn't have anybody to turn and laugh at.

Most likely, yes. I would wonder what she is up to or currently doing. What could it hurt to try and start a nice chat with a lonely girl?

I've just never had a girl stick with me since my last big trip in a while. I met a girl there, and we became friends for like the three weeks we were there, we'd meet at each other's rooms and do alot together in the evenings.

Other than that, I've been single for the past two years.

It's easier for most guys to approach a girl who is alone because they cant get embarrased as much if they get "rejected" or pushed away...But a real genuine guy thats interested in you for you wont hesitate to approach you reguardless of surroundings or if the sky was falling...I would definitely approach the lady of my eye in any circumstance, because i'll never know what chance i may have later...Besides you girls admire a confident fellow...this i know

Friends are intimidating! They always have oppinions about guys and are total game killers!!! The only way to approach a girl who has her firends with her is to have your buddies distract them while you make the move. Seriously though, single girls are easier to approach, but one might ask himself "Why is she by herself?"

much more likely if she is alone.......but it rarely happens like that in a bar/club. it's not so much because of the rejection factor as it is that the other friends in her group usually surround the guy like a swarm of bees and make it difficult for the guy to be sincere with the girl and tell her what he wants to say.
