This question can only be answered from a non-biased point of view.

Many people will and have been giving you answers with religious overtones. Well, that's their OPINION. Not an answer.

The answer is very complex because we are sentient (thinking, self aware) beings. Other animals don't ponder this sort of idea. They have a need to survive as a species.

Mankind has made many exceptions to this. We help each other because we are aware that others need help. We kill each other because some idiot leader sends our best and brightest as human sacrifices into a dubious war. Their talents could be used in a much more positive way.

In my opinion, and only YOU can come to yours, is that humans deepest desire is to have that feeling of belonging in a group. Having friends who support us and will listen to us. Being part of the "web of life." If you don't have that, you feel alone, abandoned and isolated. That is not fun!

The meaning of life is to have fun and that can only be done through relationships with other human beings.

I think our deepest desires are to be loved and be happy. I also think that we all have an inner desire to search for the truth about the universe, God and everything that is beyond our comprehension.

The deepest desire of all humans is to feel loved.
Love is the most basic and elementary thing there is, we will do anything to receive it. Even the smallest of babies know when they are in the arms of someone that loves them. The most vile criminals say they just wanted to be loved.

I wouldn't say it is the same for every person. My deepest desire is to be known for who I am, every facet of myself, and to be loved. That is the need, one of them, that God fills for me.

Our deepest nature is not to desire.

'Desire' inherently is a dualistic term (you and the thing desired). Our true nature is one of 'being'.
