I know that a broken windshield results in a ticket. But how shattered does it have to be? My truck just has a single crack going straight across. It's higher up on the left side (the driver side) more than half way up, and shoots straight across, and then comes down all the way to the bottom right where the passenger would sit. When do you know it is illegal? Does this very per state? I'm in Michigan. And it doesn't affect my driving whatsoever. Thanks.

Nah, my state doesn't do yearly inspections.

any crack in a window that impedes the DRIVERS vision is a violation and cause for a ticket. Officer discretion is the official judge of verifying if the crack is impeding on the driver's vision or not.

California standards.

You might receive a citation for the windshield being shattered to the point where you can no longer see through it clearly or it becomes a danger to you and others (that's in the State of Oklahoma). Just one single crack should not be a problem.

Any amount of crack is to much in Michigan. There are two reasons, 1 it can be a distraction when sunlight reflects off it. 2. 70% of a vehicles strength in a roll over is in the glass, having a partially broken windshield compromises the safety.

It will vary from city to city county to county ,state to state But its common knowledge that state highway patrol will ticket you while unless your doing something else citys wont normally bother with again thats normally they to will ticket you to make Quota and to ALL judges a crack any where in a windsheild MUST impair your line of sight even if its in the very bottom of the pass. side and less than a inch in lenght

I think that would depend on if your state does yearly inspections on your vehicle. In my state they do, and as long as the crack does not cross over the driver's side's view it's legal.

Correct!, It varies from state to state. In Texas, as long as you can clearly see to the right and left out the windshield, it's Legal.

its illegal when the officer thinks it is.

Sorry but that is about the way it really works, I know you want a so many inch crack, or some measurement, but officers basicly use it for stoppoing someone they want to stop ( unless it is all bashed in) And of course always if it goes though the line of vision of the driver.

Does vary from state to state as well as officer to officer.

Normally, you would get a "fix it" ticket. You fix it, and the ticket is voided.

The crack you describe probably won't get you stopped.

If there is video evidence or another variety of pictures to coach it, it truly is the in reality way you are able to seize the suspect. without this evidence, the suspects can only deny until eventually they confess or a sufficient witnesses accuse them. i does no longer confront all individuals until eventually you recognize one hundred%, or you are able to face different issues contained in the destiny

it might vary form city to city are county to county but i think its up to the officer. if they can notice it thats when its illegal. if you have a pin hole they can not notice it They can't give you a ticket.
