well, i also have curly hair. I used to straighten it, but no more, because it will damage it nomatter how you do it. Now I have use a lot of curl defining conditioner and shampoo each time I shower. my hair has become much more soft and less frizzy.
and when i want to go to out, i put some gel on my hair to show the curls better, with no frizz :-)

Use a good shampoo and conditioner especially made for people with curly hair. I know Herbal essence has a collection for curly hair (moose, shampoo, and conditioner). If you straighten your hair, make sure your hair is 100% dry and you can use a straightening balm after to make it stay. Use a ceramic straightening iron, they work fast and do less damage than the metal ones. However make sure you take good care of your hair, trim every couple months, do a deep conditioning treatment every 2 weeks. No matter what hair style your going for make sure to NOT rub your hair with a towel to dry. Your hair can break and be very frizzy! hope this helps

Well I suffer from curly hair too. There is a book called Curly Girl written by Lorraine Massey and it will tell you what hair products to use. It answered most of my questions about curly hair and my hair finally looks good. I also have a product called CurlSilk and it really controls the frizz. But I DO NOT recommend gel, it usually just gets your hair all tangled up.

Honestly, your curly hair can never look perfect, but the best way to tame it after you wash it (and this works for my curly hair) is to towel-dry it and scrunch some anti-frizz serum as well as a little bit of hair cream that's specially made for curly hair types into yours. This cream helps your curls stay put and enhances their shape. And when it comes to drying your hair, the best thing you can do to it is just leave it alone. Your hair looks best when its healthy and by blow-drying your hair, you're only drying it up. When you really need to get it dry quickly, use a diffuser on low heat (less heat=less damage).

I stopped using shampoo and use only conditioner. Use it like you would shampoo, rub it into your scalp and then "comb" the tangles out with your fingers. Towel dry your hair (never blow dry) and use only a spray gel made with 3/4 gel to 1/4 distilled water mixed in a spray bottle. It may take a few days to get it looking less frizzy, but I swear by this routine now! I try not to straighten much now, but when I don't wash my hair that day and use a heat protection spray and molding paste instead of gel. There is some great info here http://www.devachansalon.com/

An easy way to control frizz before you put hair gel in is to get a micro fiber cloth to towel dry your hair after showers. Instead of rubbing the towel on your head, scrunch the water out. When your hair is dry enough, wrap in a cotton t-shirt (100 %) and let it dry a little bit longer. Then do what you usually do to style your hair. My friend has frizzy hair and this always works on her.

I have the curliest hair ever it sucks! I tame it by not brushing it when I get out of the shower just scrunch it in the towel then I use a product called curls rock by bed head it is the best product ever. I can only straigten my hair with a chi iron they are pricey but the work awsome and it does no damage.

get a product call miss jessies curly pudding if you are caucasion you can apply a bout a quarter size amount and work it thur your hair while it is soaking wet then either let it dry naturally or dry w/a blow dryer and difusser dont comb it.
If you are african american apply the product section by section and twist it then dry under a hooded dryer...
To straighten your hair get a chi iron and the chi serum(comes in a little grey bottle w/red writing on it) apply a small amount while wet and then dry then section the hair and use chi iron section by section..

Use coconut oil - its really moisturising for your hair - cuts down of frizzies and hold your hair like gel - curls love moisture. Not washing your hair so often also helps, the natural oil from your scalp is really good for your hair.
