The stud has to be over 8 months old. AKC won't register the puppies if the male is under 8. The female should be 2 years old. Both dogs need to have check up and clear bill of health. Up to date on shots, Papers proving that they are AKC register.
You both should have a clear contract that is agreeable for the both of you. The female should come to the male house because females are less nervous at a new place then males.
All breeders are different. I do not charge if the female doesn't have a litter. I like to see two matting's, if the owner of the female wants more then that is ok too. I have the owner of the female stay so in case her dog get upset during matting she/he can calm her down.
I charge a price of a Puppy, Which in my case would be 400.00 other may choose pick of the litter.
Other people may give you ideas too..So learn from each answer. Some will tell you that they need to have championship in their back ground..Mine are not show dogs mine are breed for pets only.
Hope this helps , good luck to you

I had my Springer Spaniel bred and the owner of the male wanted the pick of the litter. He never asked for a stud fee, That doesn't mean all owners of the stud will only ask for the pick of the litter. I know some ask for a fee and pol. Stay away from them. You can always find a good breeding dog. They do need to be AKC registered otherwise, you won't get full price for them.

Money or a pup. The fees depend on the breeder and if
they are registered or not. The male should be about a
year old. The female is take to the male, and the female
stays with the male for a few days, or you can take her back
and forth depending on the agreement made.

To the answer above mine, I cannot believe you'd let a 6-8 month old PUPPY try to breed a female. NO dog, male or female should be younger than 2 years. Backyard breeders of the world unite. *rolls eyes*

Customarily, it is "pic of the litter" or the $$$ Value of a Puppy.
Any thing is negotiable if agreed upon between the The two owners.
but, ultimately the owner of the "stud" calls the shots!
If the owner of the "B!#C%" doesn't like the terms...they can go elsewhere for service!
Your dog is capable between 6-8 monthes of age. It may take several tries at it until he figures out which end and is successful at it. I wouldn't charge until he's "proven".
Females however, shouldn't be bred until at least their 2nd heat or 2 years of age.
( to let them fully mature,to safely carry a litter & for her best health)
The stud, should be equal or a bit smaller in size- or there may be delivrey complications and a Costly C-section to deliver pups!

Youy need to have a dog that is AKC registered that has been shown to its championship and has all of its health screenings. Otherwise, a male dog is worthless as a stud and no one will pay money for the service. Making money at dog breeding is a lot of work and not as easy as many people think.
If you don't intend to go through all of these steps, you should neuter your dog for his health and to avoid unwanted puppies.
