Definition; an anglicisation of the French surname Gaillard.

But the children at school are calling him gaylord because they have no idea what it means, they think because it has the word GAY in it that its funny. Kids are mean sometimes,
tell your son to tell those kids they are ignoramus homosapiens that'll do it without him getting in trouble.

Good luck & God Bless

This can be some kind of a joke meant to be harmless. It could be associated with the comedy "Meet the Parents". Or this can be directly homosexual.

Either way, you will need to talk to your nephew about it. Take him out to maybe a video game arcade and talk over it when he has your attention. Ask him if it bothers him that other kids are calling him that and ask him if he wants you to talk to someone in his school that can help. Explain to him that he does not need to endure other kids' jokes when it isn't funny. Tell him that he makes you proud and that you do not want him feel uncomfortable at school or anywhere else. Make sure he trusts you and feel like he can talk to you about anything.

Gaylord is an offensive term for a homosexual person and they are probably making fun of him and trying to mistake him for a completely gay person. Those kids at school must be prejudiced to gays, even though he is probably not gay.

I am not sure what they could mean. what is his name? is it close to that? have you seen "meet the parents". the character is named gaylord focker. maybe it is a reference to the movie. that is all i can think of.
kids can be cruel. i have been called many names in school. many of which do not make sense. my name is melanie and this one kid in grade school called me jon mellancamp. i still dont understand what that was supposed to mean today. and i am nearly 24 and out of school. kids are the meanest little monsters i know of. who can possibly understand them.
also, have you talked to his teachers and/or principle? maybe they could help you out.

It means they think he is effeminate. The first three letters should have given you a clue. Kids are mean and it's not "all the kids at school," your nephew is just getting picked on by a few bullies. It happens a lot.

They're trying to call him the king of gays, which was from Ben Stiller's role in Meet the Parents.
