I have an 05' gti 1.8t........
i have 2.25 inch piping now, but would i get better performance if i had 2.5, or 3.0?....i know it would sound better, but i would rather have a faster car than a noisier one........ it a custom catback by the way.....

Call Borla performance exhaust - their testing revealed that larger than 2 1/2 actually kills low end torque / snap in the little VW motors - even if it has a turbo. Testing by Taliferro Saab & Nordic showed until you build a 4 popper that makes 350+ horsepower - there is no advantage in a 3" pipe. Check out the German "REMUS" brand of cat-back systems - they actually tune there mufflers to make them sound as cool as possible - Search on YouTube for Remus & VW for sound files - the BMW 5 series sounds wicked in a REMUS exhaust system.

as well as the 1.8t 20v breathes that turbo will not like the 3 inch up a 2.5 inch cat back is good . the best thing to do is a down pipe at one point my awp on is about an inch and a 1/4 i gained almost 15 hp from the down pipe before the exhausts , ad a chip and your up over 225 wheel

with turbo cars you should be able to run a 4inch pipe and still gain power...unlike non turbo cars were anything bigger than 2.5 will mostlikely make you lose power...so if you want more power put a TURBO BACK EXHAUST of at least 2.5 to 3 inch...and your power will increase...along with boost respons and higher boost will be atainable easier now....some ppl say that boost creeps are almost eliminated....so overall you should know that with a bigger exhaust your Boost will come faster...no more spikes..and you will hold a consistent amount of boost....
