Atkins keeps coming up on top in the research. There is one better option, though. My doctor swears by the book The Schwarzbein Principle. It's not so much a diet as it is an explanation of how foods affect your insulin and blood sugar levels and a return to balanced eating. That or the Ultrametabolism Diet by Dr Mark Hyman. In my mind, they aren't weight loss diets (though both claim you can lose with them). They're more medical diets. There's also the Zone diet which that 1 ton man in South America has been using under doctor's supervision and has so far gone from 1200 to 800+ pounds.
The biggest thing is to find out what foods make you gain. For me, it's pasta of any kind. If I eat it, even a smaller than normal portion, I'm 2 pounds heavier on the scale in the morning. I've learned that my body can't handle the quick conversion from starches to sugars and deal with the sugars (other than tucking them away for a famine).

I am not familiar with nutri system but have used atkins before and am currently doing Atkins in preparation of a vacation I am to go on. If you stay on the induction phase until you lose half of the weight you are trying to acheive, and then go to stage 2 and increase carb intake by 5 gms, it is supposed to work. I am a big advocate of the diet and find it easy to stay on. What keeps me motivated are the ketostix which allow you to know if you are in ketosis or not. If you are in ketosis, you can burn 1-2 lbs a day. I have about 10 lbs to lose and keep off and find this diet to be easy as well as changing my lifestyle when coming off of it. At that point, no bread unless it is whole wheat, no rice, starches etc. High fiber, low carb, high protein and moderate fat.
One note is that I did Atkins twice in 2003 to drop about 5 lbs so I was not on it long either time but I did notice the second time was not as successful as the first. I think the body gets used to it and works more efficiently. Now it is 2007 and it is working as good as the first time I tried it.
Hope that helps.

Atkins could give fast results, but can result in serious cardiovascular health problems later on in life because your body NEEDS carbohydrates to maintain good cardiovascular health.
I recommend neither. Nutri System seems like a rip off, and Atkins just isn't healthy. I recommend Weight Watchers, which takes a much more practical and basic and, most importantly, healthy, approach of just simply counting calories through the Points system.

I lost a total of 50 pounds on Atkins. In the first 21 days I lost 20 pounds. I know this diet isn't for everyone but it is the one for me. I'm not sure but from what I have heard Nutri System is alot like the Sugar busters diet. You might want to look into that.. Good luck.

Atkins gives fast results but really isn't good for you. I really wouldn't advise you to try this one.
Nutri System is expensive but the meals are healthy and well balanced. My co-worker lost a lot of weight on this and she said that it was expensive but the food was pretty good.
Good luck!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

If you're afraid of surgery, better go the natural & less expensive way. Eat healthy foods & go exercise.
& don't be misled by fad diets. Carbohydrates, fat & protein are essential to our body in sufficient amounts. It is only when each of these increase in more than adequate amounts that we get negative effects like illnesses or weight gain.
On healthy foods, herbs, fish, lean meat, fruits & vegetables are the way to go.
For weight loss, do cardio(treadmill, stairclimber, running, etc) & weight training (machines, dumbells, barbells)exercises. These burn fat & increase muscle mass(more muscle means less fat in the body). Ypu can also supplement with any sports that you love.
You can't go wrong with these..
Good luck!

none of the above.
only a diet that you can fallow all your life is a good one.
exercise!!! do cardio 4-5 times a week for 30-50 min, eat 5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day, no junk food, no bad fats or bad carbs and drink 8 glases of water.
