Are there strictly reserve units, or do all regular units like 1st infantry, 2nd rangers...etc just have reserve components? I guess im just asking how reserve units are set up/organized.

The United States Army Reserve is set up in a series of 10 regional readiness commands:

http://www.armyreserve.army.mil/arweb/organization/commandstructure/usarc/rrc/

There are Divisional Structures (training divisions like the 84th out of Milwaukee, WI) which do One Station Training (OST) at the training posts, training commands out of The Army School System (TASS) as well as other training structure.

On the other side of the coin is the Brigade/Battalion structure (major emphasis in Combat Support and Combat Service Support CS/CSS) like MPs, Engineers and Transportation Companies. Each of the RRC's have a specific command structure and units report up to to them.

Reserve Component units used to be "aligned" with an Active Component unit so by theory when the 1st Cav Division was deployed; all of the supporting USAR units went with them. Now due to the war; units are rotated in/out of the AOR based on the CENTCOM Commanders requirements (more trans companies to move, more MPs for security etc...)

Hope that answers your question.

Yes, you need to ask a recruiter. For the safety of all our men and women in uniform, information about the structure of our military should not be shared publicly.
