The general religious person is pretty mundane and boring and dosent seem to do much...Though there is the obvious exception to the rule, Joan of Arc and Martin Luther King Jr being two very obvious acceptions, personally I am not religious, and I have been described as a "rebel" as I'm very active in my local community trying to change the predudices against races, sexual orientations, and even subcultures..However some of my good friends are quite Christian, and help - and do the same thing

Some of it comes down to how true you are to the religion - A pseudo-christian for example will talk about how much all the athiests and, well, basically anyone not just like them is lacking morals and such - where as a real christian will accept that - and fight the people who propagate this predudice

Not to say a real christian cant live a mundane existance, its just generally how I see it

I don't think there is any correlation between being religious and being rebellious. I think it has more to do with civil unrest. At the time of the American Revolution, religious fervor was high, during the 60's and Vietnam religion was at a low. Spirituality has nothing to do with a person's happiness with how their government is treating them.

Depends on how you define rebellious. Do you define dropping your religion as rebellious? Then this survey is skewed.

But this atheist was too boring as a kid to get in trouble. And now lives far away from home, so no one knows about the trouble she gets into.

Well to hazard a guess and to make a generalization, it seems that religious people by definition have already closed the book on new information regarding their origins and God's role here on Earth. -- So they rebel everytime new information is discovered that conflicts with the King James Bible or whatever.

Example:

The research department of the Catholic Church recently declared that Homosexuality is not a sin, and never has been. It was simply mistranslated in the King James and other English translations. -- Are you going to rebel against that new information because you have been raised to believe that homosexuality is a sin?

You have only to look at the statistics of the prison population to find out. It is a sad story. Theists are very well represented in the penal system. Atheists and agnostics on the other hand are underepresented.

They tend to be less rebellious. The reason is that they are always afraid because religion has always told them to be afraid. Since they are sheep they dont' even think to question why they are afraid. They just know they shouldn't do things simply because their religion tells them not to do it.

Are you kidding? Religion gives a way of rationalizing a crime. They can repent and absolve their sins. What a cop out. As an Atheist, I totally take ownership of my actions and I expect the same from those around me regardless of religion.

Most of history's biggest wars were started by religious people.
