Do you even know who is an atheist or Christian at your place of employment?

I do. I have three of my co-workers as housemates. They are all Christian and are well aware of my atheism, as are many others in my workplace. I've met at least one other person in my workplace who is atheist.

I freelance and the other day I was working with a guy whom I found out is a Mormon. I could get a fair bit of work from him so I didn't want to insult him or even get into a religious argument with him. If he found out that I am an not just an Atheist but a militant Atheist, then I don't think he would be writing checks to me with as much enthusiasm. But we got along alright, although I found myself not using the foul language I usually do. The only thing we didn't agree on was the Iraq war.

I actually worked at a church before I "came out" as an atheist, so I learned to keep my mouth shut (or be really subtle).

I can think of only one instance where a co-worker's Christianity was a problem to me, but she was so fundamentalist that Fred Phelps would have told her to calm down and be more tolerant. This wasn't at the aforementioned church, incidentally.

I live in West Michigan, which is peppered liberally (ha ha) with fundamentalist true believers; it's like the Bible Belt with snow. Any ordinary workplace, I think, is likely to be a mix of members of all stripes. If you work with people long enough, you find out where they stand religiously just by paying attention.

I am an atheist, and I have religious conversations with a Jehovah's Witness at work from time to time.

We talk, we argue, and when it's over, nothing changes in our regard or respect for each other.

I have had one other experience with another coworker, who became made some really offensive remarks when he found out I was an atheist.

But, he's not exactly the brightest crayon in the box, so after putting him in his place regarding the lack of intellect he displayed, I let it go.

I know who some of the Christians are because they know that I am. I don't really know who the Atheist are, and don't care if they are Atheist or Christian or something else. As long as they are nice to be around, I am OK.

When I worked in Community Mental Health it was not acceptable to discuss religion. I didn't know for the longest time that our medical director was Muslim. I knew that one of the Psychiatrists was Hindu because of the red dot on her forehead. Otherwise we were not really allowed to discuss it. It was a government funded agency.

Of course I know. We talk about it often, and we all get along really well and tease each other about it. They'll tell me I'm going to hell, I'll pick on them for being scientists who believe in the supernatural.

In my office, it's me the athesist, a Morman, a Christian, and a Catholic. The Morman doesn't like to play as much. He's not much fun.

I am Mormon and I work with a other Mormons, a Hindu boss, Hindu customers and coworkers of other Christian faiths. We know what religion we each are, and we respect that. My boss does not ask me to drink coffee and supports me by explaining to clients why I decline their offer to drink coffee or alcohol with them. We all get along well, and I have never had a problem. We simply respect each other as equal human beings.

I am retired now but when I worked I got along with everyone. I respected every ones individuality and respected their space. The Atheists enjoyed playing mind games with people and felt they were superior in intellect and cleverness but that was just who they were and we accepted them on that level. Gotta love 'em. Mmm
