To control how much money you are spending daily, you first have to know exactly how much you are spending, and what you are spending it on.
Get a little notebook and a pen or pencil and carry it with you everywhere you go. Every time you spend money, write down the time, the amount, and what you bought. At the end of the day you will have something like this:
7:50 a.m. Latte and bagel $7.50
10:15 a.m. Snack--Apple and cookie $3.50
12:43 p.m. Lunch--Salad and bottle of water $6.95
5:15 p.m. Evening newspaper and a magazine $4.75
Only your list should include every single penny you spend in a given day.
Keep that notebook with you for a minimum of a week, so that you can also track your spending on the weekend. Ideally, you should do it for two or more weeks, but it is very tiresome to write down every little thing, and pretty soon you will start to forget.
Once you have at least one week's worth of daily expenditures, you can sit down and analyze where your money is going, and decide where you can cut back.
For instance, if you regularly buy a cup of coffee and something to eat on the way to work, consider if it wouldn't be cheaper to invest in a commuter cup, and brew your coffee at home and just take it with you. You can also buy things like bagels or sweetrolls at the grocery store, and they will be much less expensive than buying one at the coffee shop daily.
Because you can see your expenditures, and you have concrete data about where you are spending your money, you can sit down and develop a plan that will help you cut back on your daily expenses.
Once you have made a plan to help you cut back on what you are spending daily, stick with it. I know it is hard to do, so for a while, until you get used to the reduced spending, you might try only carrying a limited amount of money in your pocket, and not using charge cards at all (unless it is an emergency, naturally).
Over time, with a little discipline, you should be able to get your daily spending under control. Once you analyze where your money is going, you will probably find ways to substitute other, less expensive items, or stop doing some things altogether.

Well, writing it down is much simpler than actually doing it, but one very effective way is to not carry any more cash than is actually needed for each day. If we don't have money in our pockets, we can't take it out and spend it for things we don't absolutely need.
Credit card use is the biggest reason that daily expenses are out of control. People have gotten used to getting everything they want immediately, instead of saving up for things. They would rather pay interest on a loan (which is what credit is) than to wait a little longer to own whatever it is that they think they just HAVE to have.
