In African American weddings we do something that is called "jumping the broom".

Italian wedding have the bride carrying a money bag for monetary gifts.

Jewish break the glass...

i guess it really just depends on the couple, their families, their beliefs and religion.

There are so many things that can be considered a tradition in one family, but not to the greater whole of the community as well such as a friend of mine- when she got married her mom gave her a locket that her mom gave her that her mom gave her etc- i think the locket is about 100 years old and when her daughter gets married she will get it.

It all depends on what religion, culture, beliefs that the bride and groom have.

Though one thing in America that is pretty common is the bride is supposed to carry something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue (for good luck).

The bride also tosses her bouquet (any single woman that catches it is supposed to be the next to get married), the groom tosses the bride's garter belt (any single man that catches it is supposed to be the next to get married).

Many African American couples honor tradition by jumping a broom after they are wed. Like I said, it all depends upon the beliefs of the bride and groom.

I'm including a link to a great site where you can find pretty much any wedding tradition for any country.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!
