Why do you get so much joy from tearing down Christian beliefs? I don't shove anything down your throat. Can't you accept that you are not better than anyone else?

Yes, yes, this is my only real joy in life... making believers cry. I cackle gleefully when I do it, too. Muah ha ha ha ha.

Look, kid, it isn't a sick pleasure of mine to "tear down Christian beliefs". I don't like it when people are disappointed with reality... but then again, as Carl Sagan said, "...it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

Faith is detrimental. That's not because I "have something against Christians". I don't. It's not because I'm "bitter or scared of accountability". It's not any of that. Faith is bad and gods don't exist. That's not anything "against you". That's not meant to "tear you down". It just.... is. I won't stop telling the truth just because some people have their religious dogma challenged by it.

I get joy from seeing people think.

And sharing my opinions on your religion is not shoving it down your throat.

I know I'm not better than anyone else. Atheists, on the whole, do not equate a person's beliefs with the entirety of who the person is... actually, that's what I see many religious people do.

You are not your Christianity, and I am not my atheism.

However, I cannot accept that your beliefs are just as good as mine. If that were the case, I would not have left Christianity.

I don't look at it that way,I just look at it the same way any Christian looks at it,I'm just spreading the truth, As a rule I could care less what ancient superstitions one chooses to follow,it is only when it interferes with the lives of others that it bothers me. Like having a President that bases whether or not his country will help science move forward based solely on his religious beliefs. Or when he makes decisions about educating the children of this country based on his religious prejudices, such as spending huge sums of money on faith based abstinence only programs, while doing everything within his power to hinder any kind of real sex education that might help avoid teen pregnancies, help reduce std rates and perhaps save lives with AIDS out there. But his religion teaches him this so he imposes it on the rest of the country. Why is it that Christians always want other to respect their beliefs and complain about others shoving their beliefs down their throat, and then show zero respect for the beliefs of others and force their beliefs down others throats, often through force of law?

Maybe you don't. That's great. However Christians are influencing government and politics. Christians have bin waging wars and forcing there beliefs since the death of Jesus. Its not just Christianity i personally have a bigger beef with Islam right now. Religions is dangerous in masses. It might be positive for one person and give him hope. When put in a group setting it is evil. Just look at what happens when the government is a religion.

Not all atheists try to "tear down Christian beliefs" and think they're "better than anyone else." I'm an atheist, and I respect the beliefs of others as long as they respect my beliefs. I don't believe one's beliefs make one superior or inferior to anybody else, they just make one different.

It's not very nice to generalize...you say that YOU don't shove beliefs down anyone's throat...so if I said CHRISTIANS shove beliefs down my throat then I would be generalizing and that would be wrong...not all atheists try to tear down christian beliefs. Believe away......

Actually, many Christians are trying to shove their beliefs down our throats, by pushing their beliefs into our laws. We need the atheists out there to fight against this tide of fundamentalism. If Christians could be happy with keeping their beliefs out of the political realm, there would be no need for anyone to discuss the faulty logic behind the beliefs.

This site was designed for people to answer questions which they are knowledgable about. Most atheists are rather well versed in the bible, and religion in general, and are capable of giving logical answers, grounded in reality and fact. Use the little scroll bar on the right, if you want to skip past an answer that disagrees with your beliefs.

I don't think I'm any better than anyone else, however some ideas and beliefs and values are better than others. (The opposite to this view is called relativism).

It's important to try to discover which ideas, beliefs and values are better, and one of the best ways of doing this is to compare, and sometimes contend. Try not to be personally offended by this.

I don't bash Christians, but when they attempt to shove religion on my face, I'm going to stand up for myself. I'm tired of religion being brought into every aspect of my life. Keep it in church where it belongs. So you personally may not shove it down my throat but plenty of christians do. I never said I'm better, just keep your thoughts to yourself. This includes, schools, government, my work, my front door...

You have mistaken Atheist for Anti Theist. The Anti Theist has a burning desire in their heart to rid the world of religion. They often will make outrageous claims and blame all of their problems with religion. They can not step outside of their beliefs to see that both Theists and Atheists are people and as such fallible.

They do take delight in trying to pull people away from God because they think they are doing the world a huge service. Most of them will deny they are trying to pull people away from religion, but it is blatantly obvious that is in their agenda. They often make bogus claims about how horrible Christians are to them. Instead of attacking the few fundamentalist views, and fighting for humanism they attack entire religions. They are ultimately misguided.
