When I try them I wind up either not being able to support my self up or falling over. I don't see how people can lift up with no support on their ankles. I seriously give out. I don't like crunches because they hurt my back and arent as affective on me.

I need help!

Make sure when you're doing crunches and other ab workouts that you do them correctly. Don't strain your back and neck by pulling your elbows in and tucking your head toward your chest, keep your elbows open toward the sides and lift your head to the ceiling straight up rather than forward, also make sure your shoulder blades come off the ground every time you do so. If you're doing this right your crunch should be more linear and take the pressure off your neck and spine and place it on your stomach so you get more of an effective workout.

And for some other ab workout ideas:

You should also do crunches side to side and with your body twisted and laying to one side while you still crunch upward. Another workout is the pull both your legs in tightly to your chest while holding an upward crunch position and lengthening one at a time alternating while one is still held toward your chest eventually alternating them as straight legs kicking up to the ceiling while one is slightly lifted above the ground.

You should also try keeping your back straight on the ground while bringing your legs together straight up to the ceiling and slowly bringing them down just low enough not to touch the ground while keeping your hands clasped together upward rather than gripping the floor and while keeping your back flat and not letting your wieght slip forward as your legs go down.

Those are some great workouts that if you keep doing consistantly will tone your stomach and give you loads of ab strength. If you do these workouts the right ways as i suggested they will take the strain off your back and be MUCH more effective. Plus these make your abs a lot stronger so that you can easily support yourself.

Hope I helped and good luck :]

I know what you mean, I have trouble with them too. Maybe try the ab-lounge thing. I tested it in a store and I was able to, but I only did a few so I don't knwo if I would be able to the whole time. It was very comfortable though. I wanted to buy it just to sit in.
Or you could try some other sort of ab working machine.
Good Luck!

it hurts often hurts ur tail bone cuz regardless of floor you r training on is in basic terms too puzzling. attempt to coach on some mats or is you dont have mats, some layers of blankets or something. once you pull up use ur tummy as a exchange of you head or neck. attempt tucking ur ft below the settee so as that u can concentration extra on pulling up. when you are able to pull up usin the settee, attempt putting somethin else on genuine of ur ft thats kinda heavy so as that u arent in keeping with ur ft. it additionally enables to do different workouts with ur abbs. even in basic terms retaining a plank (push up place. yooh can hav ur arms strait or bent and hav ur elbows on the floor).

Crunches become ineffective after awhile, just run.
