Whoa! You are asking a very broad question which is very hard to answer. But being a photographer myself, I think I can help you out a little bit. For beginners (which I'm guessing you are one), I would recommend the Nikon brand. In fact, Nikon was the first camera that I won the state fair photograph award with. Another brand that I often recommend to people with similar questions to yours is the Canon PowerShot series. Currently, I have a Canon PowerShot G6. It has 7.1 megapixels and I take a lot of wedding and party pictures.

One thing that you have to consider is what are you going to be using it for. If you were to take a lot of people pictures, you would want to buy a higher resolution camera such as 4.0 megapixels to 10.1 megapixels. If you were to take a lot more landscape and other objects that don't involve humans, you should get a camera 4.0 or below.

The last thing that you should determine is the price and size of your camera. Remember that the higher the resolution, the more expensive it is going to be. Also, if the camera looks big, so is the price. So stick to small if you have a small budget.

Last thing, I might be repeating myself, but it is impossible to determine the best digital camera. Because it depends on everyones' personal opinions on what the "best " camera is. Also, there are more high tech cameras than any man can count. And all of them cost somewhere around 1K or higher.

So, I hope this helps.

A point & shoot digital camera? I like Canon, and think they make the best. Nothing against other brands. I’ve just a long history of personal experience and preference with Canon. They have an awesome line of cameras that can fit any kind of budget.

Canon has an awesome line that can fit the bill. Consider the PowerShot models, the A460, A550/A560 and A630/A640. Or check out the SD____ models. Here is a link Canon’s cameras: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=113

I have a Canon PowerShot A620 which I purchased new online last Spring. My favorite feature of this model is the vari-angle display/LCD screen. It protects the screen when not in use, and helpful for odd angle shots. But now they have an updated version the A630 and A640. Here is a review and its features (see the vari-angle screen), up close and personal:

Here is where I go to shop for the best price for digital cameras. Just type in your camera model in the ‘search keyword’: http://lowpricedigital.com/category.asp?master_category_Id=1000 Buy soon or check daily, for prices changes daily amongst merchants. Also check to make sure the camera is ‘new’ or ‘refurbished’.

If you’d rather buy from the store, check the usual places, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, and camera stores. Even consider Office Max, Office Depot, CostCo/Sam’s Club---any store with a camera department.

Ciao!

Asking what is the best digital camera is like asking what is the best car.

It all depends on your budget and what do you want to use it for. Also, considering the pace of technology - what is "best" today will probably become third or fourth best within 6 months.

But if you are after a really good one and have money to burn - some of the recommendation above are excellent buys.

Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.

This is somewhat out of date, but check this page for a general idea: http://tech.yahoo.com/rc/digital-cameras/103 Most cameras mentioned have been replaced with newer models, which we will hope are as good or better than what they replaced.

Try Pentax. It has the anti motion thing and old lenses for older models of Pentax fit just fine. It is also inexpensive and easy to use. Either as a point and shoot digital camera or as a professional SLR camera. try it.

Cannon SLR
Maybe the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II for a higher end camera
or the Canon EOS 400D for the mid range
or the Canon Ixus 900ti for the compact sized one.

I just mentioned the best among the range.

If you are asking for every specification, then it will be the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II !!
