Microsoft has stopped support for Windows 2000, so if you end up having any problems with it you're not really going to have anyone to turn to. Any bugs or security problems you find are never going to be fixed. As much as it sucks, the only way to continue to get security updates and bug fixes is to keep upgrading your ersion of Windows. Windows 2000 is definitely one of their better operating systems, but without system updates and patches your computer is going to be a sitting duck for any viruses that can exploit unfixed Windows 2000 security flaws.

After working on computers for 15 years, I have found that when I have a problem, the problem is me.

The computer cannot think, therefore, you have accidentally caused the problem.

You do not state exactly what the problem is -- just that you are unhappy with XP. Games giving you trouble? Games are primarily graphics. Graphics consume memory. Overloaded RAM causes system freeze.

Try losing wallpaper and screensavers, check startup menu and load only that which you need daily -- in Safe Mode, run a Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, defrag. These should be done regularly anyway.

Then see how well XP works for you.

I am running win2k server at home, which is win2PRO with server functions included. I have shut off the server functions and it runs great, way faster than XP plus you get all the system tools to tune. By the way, that other answer is wrong, Microsoft is still supporting it with updates and you don't have to register it. Current is service pack 4, and Internet explorer 6 service pack. If you can find the server version, Micrsoft IS going to support windows2000 for 5 more years, and that's straight from them.

It's a great system, very easy and accessible for tuning, and way faster than XP. If you can find the server version, get it, it's rock solid. I run high end engineering modeling software on it and have NEVER had a blue screen.

Windows 2000 is 7 years old now, and in technology 7 years is a long time. 1.2 gigabytes isn't much good for gaming (the sims 2 folder alone on my computer takes up nearly 3 gigabytes)

How can you have 1.2G of memory? Thants not a valid combination of chips...or do you mean disk space (which is totally different)...???

If you want to use your computer for gaming, you need to post more specs for an opinion, but I would NOT expect this from W2K. Have you looked into Linux?
