Although Meals Ready to Eat have a shelf life of three years, at least when I was around them in the late 70's and early 80's, I have eaten some that I had at room temperature, that went from New York to Wisconsin to California in almost a ten year time period. I STILL USE TABASCO and crackers and peanut butter and cheese and other packets, and it is now 2007. This is from that same batch from when I was on active duty with the Wisconsin national Guard in 1986. I have about two more meals that I am saving for a rainy day, although I do not know how safe it will be to eat at that time.
So, I correct myself. I bought some from mess cooks who were broke and needed drinking money at summer camp in 1986. The last of that batch I ate with no problems was around 2005. That makes the MRE's I ate 19 years old. I was also a HM1 in the Naval branch and Staff Sgt. with the Army branch.

Look from what I was informed by a Filipino friend. That in his culture they have 10 year duck eggs called, "Ba loot". Or I think it's pickled I'm not sure but a lot of Asia cultures do some weird crap with food. I should know Dad's Chinese.

Honey can last for a thousand times that length. They have even found the stuff in Egyptian tombs that was still good.

Well, I read in a book that McDonalds's french fries can go for a couple months without molding. I'm not sure if it's true or not.

Honey!
It never goes bad.
Ever. They found jars of honey in Egyptian pyramids that was technically fine. And it's delicious and natural.
