No more of a sin than drinking, overeating, cursing etc. Doesn't the bible forgive all sins?

This is an answer from a former two/three pack a day smoker who is absolutely addiction free in Christ Jesus.

Sin is unbelief. Unbelievers evidence many addictions which are all symptoms of sin. If not mentioned in particular; all are covered by the fact that the human body is God's temple,

If you have no spiritual question, medical knowledge about smoking should be enough. Sill, if education and understanding was the answer; nobody in the world would be smoking. Addiction to cigarettes for Christians is on a par with heroin addiction.

We were all born in iniquity and came into this world speaking lies. We do not become sinners by doing certain acts. We end up engaging in certain acts because we are sinners. I can't stress this enough. Most of what kills Christians is not understanding what I have said about sin in these few paragraphs.

I am not going to say that the person should not be allowed to preach; without knowing more details about your group or organization and about the individual. Preaching is testimoney and every Christian should preach; but God holds men behind the pulpit to a higher standard. Do you, or they, think the word of God should be compromised over a few stinking cigarettes?

In a Scriptural assembly the deacon board and/or trustees would deal with this and failing resolution the matter taken before the entire body. A local church has authority to appoint or remove a pastor.

Christians should avoid the appearance of sin. One of those appearances is cigarettes. The cigarette is not the sin, smoking is not the sin, (in fact for many smoking winds up being their judgement) but sin is behind its use and wickedness behind each sale.

Years ago a cigarette was defined as:
Some tobacco wrapped in paper, with a fire on one end and a fool on the other.
From experience I would say that is about right.

The definition of the word Sin means "without". so the word sin in the bible must refer to doing anything "without" God. I believe that smoking is a sin because it destroys the body God created for our spirit to live in. I believe that all of us at one time or another are guilty of some kind of sin or another that destroys the body. Even if we don't smoke or drink alcohol, we have all over eaten on occasion (the sin of Gluttony). Jesus is the only man to live a sin free life. So, of course, a preacher should be allowed to preach from the pulpit as long as he is not saying smoking is a good thing to do. Even preachers struggle with sin. You could help the preacher by praying that God help him with his struggle. (I apologise if the preacher is female, I used the male references because my senior pastor is male.)

All people have flaws and weaknesses. To ban someone from teaching the religion is ridiculous.

Smoking is never mentioned in the bible as a sin. It is true that a Christian should respect their body as a creation from God. But how many preachers have you met that are overweight? Gluttony is a sin to.

To forbid someone to preach because they are human is to say only a select few can truly preach Christianity.

well...i think that smoking is really bad

when u smoke, u are putting all sorts of dangerous chemicals into your body

and ciggarettes contain nicotene, which is a drug, so u r druging yourself

and if when you smoke, everyone around u is breathing in the smoke, which smells AWFUL!!!!!! and is even worse then the smoke you are breathing in coz a cigarette has a sort of filter

smoking has caused all sorts of health problems and SO MANY people have DIED as a result of smoking, and even more as a result of breathing other peoples smokes!

my great aunt got cancer from smoking and died.....it started in her lungs and spread all up her spine and into her brain....its awful!!!

i don't know whether or not its a sin..and i have no right to say that becuase i'm not God so i dunno...

but i think smoking is really bad and so do the world's leading docters

if you are preaching about how bad drugs are, and you smoke, your being a hypocrite

I know some priests that smoke. It is not a healthy thing to do as we all know now days. Many are addicted to it. It is a sin in that it is bad for the body and we are to take care of our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. My church does not push this idea, however, but I can see the validity of it.

The Torah says we are not to harm our bodies nor mark them. This means no tattoos, no mutilation, no liver damage, and CERTAINLY not lung cancer. Yes, it is self harm and yes, it is a sin. But even pastors sin. Just because a person smokes, it does not mean they are unfit to preach.

The Bible does not say tobacco is a sin. Many things we consume today has been proven to be somewhat harmful to us. But, it is a fact that it causes cancer and shortens the mortality tables. We are to refrain from those things that harm our body which is God's Temple. It causes us to be unable to fulfill possibly, all that God has assigned us to do while living on the earth. I believe it displeases The Holy Spirit when we do things like that, but I'm not convinced that it will send anyone to hell. PEACE!!!

Yes it is self-harm...but you are harming the temple of God. And it is wasteful. Smokers place a strain on the health care system by requiring cancer treatments, blah blah blah. It is bad for the environment. Carbon emissions., blah blah blah. Also, second-hand smoke is as harmful to a non-smoker as smoking itself. So you are also killing me. Slowly. But you are killing my asthmatic son quickly.

So yes, it's a sin. In fact, my 3-yr-old son will tell you you are going to jail!

Get some Nicorette gum and quit.

Well, I would say that it is not the smartest thing in the world like drinking or overeating. But, none of the are sins unless done in excess.

Paul says that if something causes a brother to stumble you should give it up.

No because if every preacher waited until the sin was out of their life, there would be no one preaching...all pulpits would be empty....The smoker can be preaching and God can be helping them to change.
